Situated close to Cortona, Relais La Corte Dei Papi is an original late 17th-century family house that's been lovingly restored. An oasis of tranquility and peace, this small, privately-owned, boutique hotel is ideal for those seeking a romantic escape, excellent Tuscan food, and a bucolic setting. Families are welcome too (babysitting services are on offer), and small to medium pets are also permitted free of charge.
Owner David and his team offer personal and unfailingly attentive service with wonderful local recommendations to help you really make the most of the beautiful location.
Note: the hotel has wheelchair access.
This is my family home – I was born in this house and grew up here with my family. It was a farm before and my grandparents were the seventh generation of farmers. When they passed away, we moved out of the house and it sat empty for many years until we decided to restore it. From the beginning to now, it’s been continued improvements – we started with just a restaurant, then we added two rooms, then the pool and then another room... My favourite place in the hotel is the old restaurant in the cellar. I have so many beautiful memories there. When I was a child, I was always with my grandfather and I have a beautiful memory of making wine with him there. We still make our own wine and olive oil – though very small quantities, just for our guests. I think our hotel is different to other hotels because it’s really personal. Everything I do in my hotel – it’s me, you know? I’m here all the time – when my guests arrive, for breakfast, when they leave – I like to be here all the time for any needs during their stay.

Down in what was once the cellar sits the restaurant, an atmospheric space with stone walls, where modern and traditional Tuscan plates are the order of the day. Come summer, meals are instead served poolside in the flower-laden garden.
Breakfast is a plentiful buffet of cheese, salamis, fruit, homemade cakes and bread.
The luxurious bedrooms combine original feature with modern touches. Wood beams, stonework and opulent furnishings bring this historic dwelling to life. The capacious spa Suites are particularly special, with their own Turkish bath, multi-sensory showers, and Jacuzzi.
Relax by the pool, with views out to the mountains, or book in a cooking class with the chef. But this special and visually attractive hotel is also a great base for exploring the area. The hotel is within easy reach of the hilltop town of Cortona, just 6 kilometres away: within the ancient Etruscan walls, you'll find the Municipal Palace, the Cathedral, and Diocesan Museum, plus plenty of shopping. Lago Trasimeno – where Tuscany and Umbria collide – is just 20 minutes away, and a scenic area for a stroll. On its banks you'll find picturesque villages such as Castiglione del Lago and Passignano sul Trasimeno .
And if you want to explore nearby wineries, David and his team will happily arrange guided tours of Chianti, Cortona, Arezzo, Siena, Montepulciano, Perugia and other famed regions. Tastings can also be organised at the hotel – the cellar houses a whopping 700 bottles.
