Cornish to a tee, Tommy Jacks is a relaxed seaside hotel in the little town of Bude. Skate and surfboards hang from the walls and the vibe is wonderfully laid-back. To top it off, the lovely Crooklets Beach is on your doorstep, making this an excellent spot to surf, paddle or while away an afternoon with an ice cream in hand.
This is a great choice if you’re travelling with the littluns too, with a child-friendly restaurant and family rooms available.
Sea Jacks is the on-site surf café serving a seasonal menu that features plenty of seafood, and a range of other dishes such as steak and pizza. Kids are well-catered for too, with a separate menu available. And the bar specialises in local Cornish drinks.
Each of the 20 rooms are comfortable and tastefully decked out, and many have sea views. Choose from compact 'Surf Pods', standard doubles, and for slightly more space there's a superior option. Plus 2 family-friendly spaces.
In line with its beachy theme, Tommy Jacks bar is home to not one but three impressive aquatic exhibits, in partnership with the with the National Marine Aquarium. Located in the bar, the tanks are excellent entertainment for the kids (and adults too), and set an atmospheric backdrop.
Situated on Cornwall's windswept northern Coast, as well as being a top base from which to surf and chill on the beach, the hotel is well-positioned for exploring. Stroll into Bude’s town centre, taking in some beautiful sea views on the way, or hop in the car and head to Padstow, Dartmoor National Park or The Eden Project, which are all around an hour’s drive away. For local recommendations, the staff are friendly and very knowledgeable – it’s worth getting the rundown on the best walks and places to see.
