The younger sister to the Brighton property, Artist Residence Penzance is just as fun, friendly and cosy a place to lay your head. Set in a Grade II listed 18th-century Georgian manor house, the building is rather pleasing on the eye – and that’s before you step into one of the 23 rooms.
Speaking of rooms, each has been individually designed by a different artist, making for a charming hotchpotch of wall murals, kooky decorative pieces and a whole load of character. Located in the pretty old quarter of Penzance, you’re well-placed explore West Cornwall too.
Fuel your day with a hot breakfast, which is prepared using locally-sourced ingredients where possible. After all that sea air, return to The Cornish Barn for hot and cold drinks, or enjoy an ice cold beer in the beer garden or terrace. When your stomach starts to rumble, the Cornish Barn Smokehouse awaits with open arms, where you can tuck into a range of British dishes.
Each of the 23 rooms has been individually designed, so you can expect plenty of character. Some of the pricier rooms even feature free-standing tubs, complete with eco toiletries. It’s worth noting that due to the central location (just a stone’s throw from the seafront) and the age of the building, the sound proofing isn’t wonderful, so this may not be an ideal choice for light sleepers.
A 5-minute walk will take you to the historic waterfront and the Scilly Isles ferry, while the beautiful Art Deco lido, Jubilee Pool is also a few minutes walk away.
