If you’re aiming to do Capri on a budget then look no further than Villa Sarah. In a notoriously pricey place, this affordable 20-bedroom boutique hotel offers good amenities at reasonable rates.
The style here is simple and traditional with plenty of the island's tradtional architectural features celebrated, including elegant archways, limestone brickwork and a sweeping marble staircase.
It's worth noting that it’s rather a long, uphill walk to the hotel, which is fine if you’re keen on exercise but worth taking into account if you're not. Rest assured there’s a welcoming little pool to cool off in at the end of your climb and you can enjoy a glass of something chilled surrounded by citrus and olive trees in the hotel's lovely garden.
A good breakfast is served each morning. A light lunch is available and snacks are on offer throughout the day. There is a small bar.
Whilst a bit dated in places, Villa Sarah's 20 rooms are clean and perfectly comfortable with plenty of charming original features like cool tiled floors and high ceilings, along with rustic furnishings from local craftsmen. A sea view comes at an extra charge.
There is a small swimming pool (open in the summer months).
The hotel is a 10-minute walk up the hill from La Piazzetta (Piazza Umberto I) – Capri's famous square which plays host to a number of chi-chi cafés and bars. From here, wander the fashion boutiques on Via Vittorio Emanuele and take a peek inside the pretty church of Chiesa di Santo Stefano.
