Housed in a beautiful fin-de-siécle building, Brody House is a haven of everything artistic and bohemian. A carefully curated art collection gives an almost gallery feel, a reminder of the hotel’s origins as a salon for the owners’ young artist friends. Rooms are each individually designed, with no two the same - each featuring a different artist's work and named accordingly.
There's an artsy, shabby-chic feel throughout with up-cycled furnishings, plenty of exposed walls, smooth parquet flooring and eclectic light fittings. The vibe is laid-back and bohemian, the staff are simply charming and the eggs benedict are something very special indeed. A fantastic option if you find yourself in Budapest - just be quick, with only 11 rooms, this place fills up fast.
Breakfast is served but is not included in the room price. There is no restaurant but sandwiches and light snacks can be delivered to your room on request and there are plenty of restaurants to choose from nearby. There is a well-stocked honesty bar at the hotel.
Brody Studios has the feel of a lively artist’s member’s club, and serves sandwiches as well as more filling meals. There is an extensive cocktail-menu, as well as a comprehensive wine-list with some real hidden gems - their Japanese wines are particularly popular.
Rooms are themed around one of the young artists who have lived and worked at the hotel, and are decorated with their works. The theme is shabby bohemianism, with exposed plaster walls and vintage furniture.
Local neighbourhood the Palace District is worth exploring, with its romantically nostalgic streets lined with faded, yet still beautiful, 19th-century mansions such as the Almassy Palace, now home to the Hungarian Chamber of Architects. The public transport service in Budapest is excellent, and you will easily be able to reach many of Budapest’s cultural landmarks by tram or metro from Brody House.
Brody Studios, sister venue to Brody House, is a short metro or tram ride away. With a stylish ruin-bar aesthetic, Brody Studios runs numerous music, arts, film and literary events. Ask reception to tell you what’s going on during your stay- booking a table is essential.
