Why so chic?
Why travel experts chose this hotel
Only when you book with Chic
In true Berlin style, you can expect a rather quirky experience at this Chic Retreat. Once the Danish Embassy building, the curved stone structure is now home to Das Stue: an artsy boutique hotel which has not lost the embassy’s grand feel.
Better still, the hotel is set right by the lush Tiergarten, with exclusive views over Berlin Zoo’s antelope and ostrich enclosures. If you’re lucky you may even catch a glimpse of the hotel’s sponsored baby kangaroo, Stuy.
When you’ve had your fill of the wildlife, there’s plenty to feast your eyes on indoors too. Art is a big deal at Das Stue, with contemporary pieces dotted throughout; from portraits of the iconic Monroe and vibrant paintings to monkey and giraffe sculptures - constant reminders of the zoo next door.
With four Michelin stars under his belt, the celebrated chef Paco Pérez earned yet another on his arrival at Das Stue. The Michelin-starred Cinco restaurant serves up some exquisite Mediterranean fine dining fare or, if you prefer something more relaxed, The Casual restaurant is the place for you.
The rooms have been designed in a modern fashion, with sleek dark woods, splashes of colour and big beds. If you’re lucky, you may even bag a room with a view. It’s worth noting that bathrooms are open-plan and some come with bathtubs in the room - fine for the exhibitionists among us, perhaps not for those more private. Dogs are allowed in some rooms but please notify hotel ahead of your arrival (extra charge applies).
When all the sightseeing gets a little too much, head back to the hotel for some serious TLC in the spa. In addition to the range of massages and treatments on offer, there is also a sauna and indoor pool, not to mention a gym if you’re so inclined.
It would be shame to miss the zoo while you’re here - guests have private access so no need to stand in the queues. Tickets are available to buy at the hotel.
