The Arte Luise Kunsthotel isn’t for the faint of heart, but it’s certainly ideal for those with a sense of fun. This is a serious art hotel. Not your run of the mill modern-art-hanging-minimally-in-corridors hideaway, but one with intense thematics that dominate each room with a great, pervasive sense of humour.
Spread across a refurbished neoclassical 19th-century building and a more recent extension, this unique base is a treat for the eyes, with each rooms individually decorated by over 50 artists. What's more, the staff are charming and you're well placed to explore, with only a short walk to the Brandenburg Gates.
There is no restaurant at Arte Hotel Luise, although the Habel Restaurant next door is an excellent choice for breakfast. Later in the day, Habel transforms into a popular wine bar, where the locals flock to chat and relax.
You’ll be spoilt for choice when it comes to dinner time; the hotel’s central location means that there are numerous restaurants, bars and cafes close by.
Each of the rooms have been individually designed with a strong focus on local, young Berlin artists. The result: an undeniably quirky feel with no two rooms the same. It’s worth noting that some of the cheaper rooms come with shared bathrooms, so for those who prefer their privacy it’s worth opting for room with a private bathroom. Please be aware that there is no lift, and so this may not be the best hotel for those with limited mobility.
The friendly staff are more than happy to arrange local tours and travel arrangements, or to give you their local recommendations on the best places to see, eat and drink.
Located in the heart of Berlin’s Mitte district, you’re well-placed to sightsee here too. The Brandenburg Gates are only a 10-minute walk away, and the Reichstag Building and Museum Island only a 15-minute walk.
