Overlooking the awe-inspiring Mount Kilimajaro, Hatari Lodge is set on the edge of Arusha National Park. This century-old lodge has a rich history, once housing the famed German actor Hardy Krueger, and named after the Hollywood movie "Hatari" that was shot in the surrounding area.
Today, it hosts a vibrant family-run boutique hotel with a well-conceived 60s-70s theme, harking back to the first safaris in the area. From bold patterns and colourful wall art, to wildlife-inspired sculptures and rustic chic furnishings, each of the fifteen rooms has been individually designed with eclecticism and a careful eye for detail.
It’s not only the hotel interiors that are set to treat the eyes; the views and game watching opportunities here are perfect for the photo album, so make sure to pack a camera. Buffalos, giraffes, hippos - Arusha National Park is full of wildlife, not to mention the dramatic views of Mount Kilimanjaro and Mount Meru in the distance.
There is a restaurant at the lodge, serving a mix of local and international cuisine for dinner. A good breakfast is served in the mornings and is included in most room rates (see rate detail below).
There are fifteen rooms at Hatari Lodge, all of which have been individually decorated in a retro 60s and 70s style. From local crafts to vibrantly patterned prints, each is different from the last; while some feature wildlife-sculptured light fittings (yes, really!), others have rustic dark wood furnishings or characterful thatched ceilings. You can be sure of a comfortable night’s sleep too, with memory foam mattresses, luxe bedding and a pillow menu to pick from.
Hatari Lodge is well-placed for exploring Arusha National Park, with plenty of safari opportunities nearby - the staff are more than happy to arrange these for you.
There is also a charming little library to browse and a garden to relax in.
