Villa i Bossi is a small luxury B&B in Gragnone, Arezzo. The original villa was built in 1240 by the Albergotti family, and has passed down the generations to the most recent descendent, Francesca Albergotti, who decided to open its grand doors to share her wonderful home with the discerning traveller. This historical villa has been thoughtfully renovated and the interiors have a classy, traditional feel, with family heirlooms and portraits of the famous dignitaries who once visited this aristocratic home. Once bustling with as many as 50 people, Francesca has brought life back to the villa in this romantic bed and breakfast where guests can enjoy staying in the high-ceilinged rooms of the main house, with their antiques, frescoes and terracotta floors, or in the newer rooms of the restored Orangerie annexe. The landscaped Italian-style garden with its i Bossi (box hedges) houses 2 swimming pools and guests can always find a quiet shaded spot to read with a fine Tuscan red. Indulge in the flavours of Tuscany in the cosy cellar dining room and even learn the dishes yourself on a Villa i Bossi cookery course.
Villa i Bossi is close to the medieval town of Arezzo which houses Piero della Francesca's famous frescoes, among them, the Legend of the True Cross. For those who want to enjoy the natural surroundings, take a walk or hike into the hills which have a variety of trails of varying difficulty. There are stables close by, so guests can also explore the hills by horseback. Golfers can visit the course near Bettolle, 30 minutes drive from the villa or visit the larger 18-hole courses near Florence and Siena, an hour's drive away. Tennis courts are also close by and Francesca will be happy to arrange any other activities that take your fancy. Montevarchi is great for shopping with factory outlets for big names such as Gucci & Prada. Back at the villa, guests can relax by one of 2 swimming pools, one reserved for adults only, nestled in the Italian-style gardens. Between May and October, guests can enrol on a cookery course at the villa from the day-long "Taste of Aretine Cuisine" class to the 5-day "Fundamentals of Italian Cuisine" course.
From May to October, dinner is reserved for the guests of Villa i Bossi, with a mouthwatering menu of tradtional Tuscan cusine served by candelight in the medieval cloisters, accompanied by wine produced at the villa. Ingredients are sourced from the garden or locally and guests can expect such treats as prosciutto, salame, pecorino cheese, fresh egg-noodles, thin-cut Chianina beef, grilled vegetables and fresh fruits. During the week, themed dinners and meals by the fireside are available on request with some surprise treats and delicious cocktails in the evening. The buffet breakfast of fresh breads, cheeses, ham, salami, yoghurt, homemade cake, jams and honey is served out in the garden from May til October and if it is raining, in the cellar of the villa.
