We think that Il Borro is the ideal Tuscan escape, whether you're a couple seeking a romantic break with room service, or a family looking for the freedom that a self-catering villa provides.
Il Borro is a 700-year old estate near the picturesque town of Arezzo in Tuscany. The estate's hamlet has been completely restored in traditional style by the Ferragamo family to provide an authentic, luxury Tuscan experience amongst stunning scenery. Not only that, it's also home to an award-winning winery that has produced the iconic Chianti Classico for several centuries, and a world-class restaurant that foodies flock to from all over the world.
Choose from a range of beautiful suites in the hamlet's houses and villa, or enjoy the run of one of the outlying farmhouses. Whatever your choice, this Chic Retreat has more than enough to captivate and enchant you again and again.
Small pets are permitted by prior arrangement at the time of booking. Due to the size of the estate, and its location, we recommend hiring a car to make the most of your stay.
Host, Relais & Chateaux Dîner des Grands Chefs 2014
Il Borro is both one of Tuscany, and Italy's great dining sensations. The foodie experience here is so popular, in fact, that the hotel recently opened a restaurant in Dubai to cater to a growing number of devotees.
There are three different dining experiences on the estate for guests to choose from.
Savour the Il Borro experience through exquisite dishes showcasing the real taste of Tuscany at Osteria del Borro. Chef Andrea Campani and his team take great pride in using ingredients from the estate and the large artisanal oven to creat delicious wholesome dishes. The restaurant opens up to a new terrace with breathtaking views of the village.
Fancy a light lunch, snack or glass of wine? Then Vincafé is the place for you. Relaxed and informal, Vincafe is a great meeting point and all dishes use only the best seasonal produce. Its contemporary style contrasts against the rustic charm of the village and is the perfect place to enjoy a laid back afternoon and enjoy the views of the Tuscan countryside.
Featuring an open view cellar and a large table for tasting events, Tuscan Bistro is home an extensive collection of wines including those produced on the Il Borro winery. The relaxed atmosphere makes this the perfect spot for enjoying traditional dishes and a glass or two or wine, as well as the sumptuous daily breakfast that is served here.
For guests who decide to spend a day exploring Florence during their stay at Il Borro, a visit to Il Borro Tuscan Bistro is a must. Shop or wine bar? You get the best of all three combined here in this modern and inviting space near the Ponte Vecchio in Florence.
You'll be hard pushed to find a more elegant luxury hotel in Tuscany than Il Borro. All of the suites and villas at Il Borro have been immaculately restored whilst maintaining many original features and a classical Tuscan style.
Luxury Villas at Il Borro
If it's exclusivity you're after then book one of the luxury villas at Il Borro. There are 3 to choose from, the largest being Villa Il Borro with 10 bedrooms, 10 bathrooms, 4 kitchens, a dining room, billiard room, indoor pool, sauna and gym. Spread across 4 floors, there is plenty of space for everyone and it makes the ideal holiday location for friends and family. As well as the 2 private gardens there is a private outdoor pool, and the rental comes with 24-hour housekeeping and daily breakfast, making it your very own private luxury boutique hotel. For a smaller villa option, Villa Casetta sleeps 6 and is in the countryside surrounding the medieval village. Ideal for those wanting peace and quiet in a very private setting, Villa Casetta is perfect for a family and has its own garden and an outdoor pool. Villa Chiocci Alto has 5 bedrooms and bathrooms and sits on the hillside overlooking the Il Borro estate. This luxury villa has been meticulously restored and has a beautiful pool with views across the Val d'Arno.
There are 40 suites in total in the village of Il Borro. Of the 16 Deluxe Suites we love Giardino di Nardi; with its painted beamed ceilings and terracotta floors it has a traditional Tuscan feel and is airy with plenty of light. Or, book Terrazzo which is a classic Tuscan suite within the village with its own private terrace. The Deluxe Suites at Il Borro are ideal for those wanting a luxurious holiday and boutique hotel experience without having to lift a finger. Complimentary WiFi, air-conditioning, flat screen TV, breakfast and 24-hour housekeeping service with room service is standard across all of the villas, suites and apartments at Il Borro.
I Borrigiani at Il Borro
For a more relaxed holiday why not book one of the 11 farmhouses which are set in the Tuscan countryside near, but not in, Il Borro village, surrounded by gardens, olive groves, vineyards and orchards. Breathe in the flavours and smells of the real Tuscany and soak up the sun and fields of sunflowers from your own Tuscan farmhouse. The farmhouses sleep between 8-16 people and have their own gardens and private swimming pools. The interiors of the farmhouses might be a little dated for some people's tastes.
Where do we begin? Il Borro has an amazing range of experiences and activities to choose from.
State-of-the-art facilities combined with a holistic approach to wellbeing, fitness, nutrition and beauty make the spa at Il Borro one of the best in the Tuscan countryside. Kanebo, Pevonia and Mesoetetic products are used to refresh, revitalise and rejuvenate you by a team of caring, expert practitioners.
Looking out from the infinity pool (kids will love to spend hours splashing in), much of the beautiful estate is visible, with horseriding, mountain biking and walking trails winding their way across the countryside. There's a gym for fitness fanatics and personal trainers can be organised to take you through your routine. Come in autumn and winter and you'll be able to hunt truffles across the estate, with a delicious lunch to keep you going.
Wine tastings, cooking classes and winery tours are available - what better reminder of your time here than tastes you can recreate at home, paired with a bottle of ll Borro wine.
Kids aren't left out at Il Borro. There are tennis and golf lessons, in addition to horse riding and more, depending on the season. Whatever time of year you visit, kids will be entranced by the attention paid to them by the team.
Further afield, there's plenty to do. Florence is a day trip and is full of wonderful museums, cultural sites, shops and bars. Arezzo, one of Tuscany's finest small cities, is even closer, with a monthly antique fair (first Sunday of the month) and some lovely shops. Of course, one of the great pleasures of Tuscany is just driving around from village to village, exploring hamlets and sample the delicious food and wine of the region.
