If you want to head to the countryside for a night or two and be surrounded by rolling hills and glorious country gardens without breaking the bank then The Hawk is the place for you, and the perfect British bolthole.
Nestled in Amport village, close to Andover in Hampshire, this is a top option for foodies – enjoy a drink out on the terrace with views to Pill Hill Brook, before tucking into the modern British menu.
Mid-week escape or a full on weekend jaunt – the choice is yours...
The Hawk Inn prides itself on its modern British menu and great bar food, both of which change throughout the year to make the most of the seasonal and local produce. Choose where you eat: in the rustic dining room or out on the terrace if the weather's playing ball. Start with wild boar and chorizo scotch egg with piccalilli and straw potatoes, follow with a duo of Chalk Stream trout and black bream fillet with samphire
and a lobster cream sauce, and finish with white chocolate and Baileys crème brûlée with shortbread. Traditional plates such as pie of the day, burgers, and steaks are available too. There's also a substantial ale and wine list to complement the quality dishes, and the amiable staff can help with any questions.
Choose from a standard, superior or family room: whichever you opt for you'll find a peaceful space, contemporary decor (some with jazzy wallpaper), and nice touches such as freshly ground coffee. Some of the en-suite bathrooms have a tub, others a shower.
Note: one room allows a well behaved dog or cat (additional charge applies).
Close to many of the Home Counties' best attractions, The Hawk is ideal for families as well as couples. Thruxton Race Circuit is ideal for adrenaline junkies, and Finkley Down Farm is fun for parents and kids alike. Travel back in time and visit the Iron Age Museum, and for military enthusiasts and wannabe soldiers there are flight simulators at The Museum of Army Flying. All of those are within a 15-minute drive. And there's plenty to do even nearer to The Hawk Inn itself, including clay pigeon shooting, fly fishing, and birds of prey shows at The Hawk Conservancy.
