Standing majestically inside a 17th-century moat in the charming little village of Saint-Regle is Arpentis: a former noble mansion, which has been converted into a boutique B&B. Grandeur rings throughout the place, from its turreted towers and regal interiors to its long, tree-lined driveway and 30-hectares of parkland.
The feelings of grandeur continue as you step through the door, with a huge drawing room complete with large open fireplace, and an equally large dining room with a terrace overlooking the gardens. But, most of all, the hotel can attribute its splendour to its charming owner Sylvie Suzanne and her team, who, combined with the spectacular surroundings, make for a very enjoyable stay indeed.
There is no restaurant at the hotel, but the owners are well-versed in local eateries, and can advise you on all the best places in the nearby Amboise. A continental breakfast is served daily, which you can enjoy on the lovely terrace during the summer months.
Each of the 12 rooms have been tastefully and traditionally decorated, with some featuring tapestries and murals. All are kitted out with comfortable beds (some four poster) and most feature lovely views out over the surrounding parkland. Family rooms are available for those travelling with children. It is worth noting that there is a 2-night minimum stay.
Practice your breaststroke in the glistening outdoor pool, which is open during spring, summer and autumn. Slap on the sunscreen and lounge on the sun-kissed terrace, or take leisurely stroll through the large gardens.
Located in the village of Saint-Regle, you’re well-placed for exploring, just 10-minutes from the charming market town of Amboise. The Chic Retreat is also an ideal base for visiting the rest of the Loire Valley, though you will definitely want a car to get here and around.
