The George Hotel in the peaceful market town of Shipston-on-Stour is a beautifully renovated 18th-century coaching inn, now a 16-room boutique B&B with a charming mix of original features and contemporary, elegant design. Decadent chandeliers, gilded mirrors, soft luxurious seating and elegant fabrics clothe the communal areas and dining room and the food is a draw all in itself.

Accommodation

The fabulous George Hotel has 16 rooms (including a twin), all individually decorated with a sleek contemporary style, and original wood beams work well with painted silver Barn & Brook furnishings and a cool & classy colour scheme. King-size beds with crisp white linens and plump pillows welcome guests and all rooms have flat screen TVs, DVD/CD players, iPod docking stations, tea & coffee with fresh milk and Eco-Fresh bath products.  Each room is named after a type of food, a fitting theme, from the aphrodisiac "Asparagus" to a hot "Chilli Pepper" and succulent "Cherry" and the headboards sport large pictures of these tasty morsels. Rooms range in size from "cosy" to "roomy".

Activities

Shipston-on-Stour is ideally situated for exploring the North Cotswolds villages and Stratford-upon-Avon, and is just 25 minutes from Warwick Castle. Horticulturalists can visit the nearby gardens of Kiftsgate & Hidcote Manor and the Cotswolds are famously good for walking & hiking. Explore the area by bike, go horse riding or take a peaceful day fishing. The George Hotel has a lovely library decked out in plump leather chairs where guests can sit by the open fireplace with an after dinner tipple, a lively public bar and a small private bar perfect for small groups.

Dining

The fabulous George Hotel restaurant is warm & inviting, wooden flooring, brick walls, oak beams and their trademark food photography which will whet the appetite for their tempting menu of modern British cuisine with an international edge. Try their pumpkin ravioli with truffle oil to start, followed by sea bass with fennel & sun blushed tomatoes. The bar serves up a more informal menu of sausage & mash or a BLT and for breakfast, their full English will get you off to the right start.

All of the produce is sourced from ethical suppliers, chicken, eggs and pork are free range, beef is 28 day dry-aged from Herefordshire Cross herds and fruit & veg is seasonal.
