Mas d'Augustine

For a family gathering or party of friends, book 4 rooms for a minimum of 3 nights and the 5th room is yours free of charge to either use or leave empty to ensure your privacy.

Mas d’Augustine is a luxury B&B or guesthouse in a converted 18th-century silk farm in La Bruguière close to the charming provencal market town of Uzes in the South of France. The 5-room 'Mas' has been respectfully restored with many original features still intact including the arched entrance, stone stairs, terracotta ceilings and cool stone slab floors. Chill-out by the heated pool for a few days to re-charge your batteries or head to Uzes and enjoy the 500 market stalls on Wednesdays or Saturdays.

Mas d’Augustine, can be found in La Bruguière, the perfect spot from which to discover the stunning area of Languedoc-Roussillon. The countryside of the Cévennes, Alpilles and Carmague as well as the Languedoc beaches and ports of Port Carmague, Le Grau-du-Roi and Aigues-Mortes are all within an hours drive. The Roman towns of Arles (famous for its bull fighting history) and Nîmes, the famous Pont du Gard and the world famous Avignon Festival, are all within easy reach of Mas d'Augustine. Your first port of call though, should be nearby Uzès where people live and work and whose market is for locals, not just for tourists. They take place on Saturday & Wednesday mornings, with over 500 stalls in the Place aux Herbes. If staying for just a few days relax and soak up the sun by the (heated) pool, before joining your hosts Jane and Gary Langton for an evening drink. On a rainy day with children in tow head for Haribo and the Musee du Bonbon which is just outside town, adults will enjoy visiting the Atelier du Cafe where coffee beans are roasted and ground in the traditional way onsite.

Breakfast at Mas d'Augustine is a French feast, served between 9 and 10.30 and includes seasonal fruits, muesli, yogurt, cold meats, cheeses, eggs and of course freshly baked croissants with homemade jams. Unlike many French B&B's breakfast is included in the room rate.

Let owners Jane and Gary know whether you would like to have supper when you come down for breakfast and they will prepare a four course candlelit meal enjoyed by the pool or the courtyard, using fresh market produce. Guests can dine in, up to 3 nights per week. There is also a selection of lighter evening meals (salads, tagines and charcuterie platters) that can be ordered at breakfast time. Conde Nast Traveller recommends you head into Uzes to Le Bec a Vin, a classy, cosy restaurant, perfect for a romantic dinner. Go on a warm evening and sit in the pretty private courtyard. For rustic French home cooking try Ma Cantine, a cafe/bar where the menu is propped up against a tree and whose friendly owner is a wine connoisseur. This is the perfect place to watch the world go by. Jane and Gary recommend L'Artemise where the food is excellent and you choose your price and number of courses, rather than the food. Or their favourite, La Maison, in Gaujac 20 minutes away, where the wife is the chef and the husband is the sommelier. The food is typically French with a spicy twist. Terroirs can be found in the heart of Uzes in the Place aux Herbes and offers reasonably priced provencal dishes.

Slow service in all of the restaurants is to be expected, matching the slow pace of life!
