About this Chic Retreat
Sitting at the highest point of Montepulciano, La Locanda di San Francesco also captures more sun than any other position nearby, even on Winter days. There are just 4 charming rooms at this small boutique hotel all with breathtaking views across the valleys of Chiana and D'Orcia and the lakes of Trasimeno, Chiusi and Montepulciano. The 14th-century palazzo has been brought back to life with great care and passion from the owners and transformed into an adorable small chic hotel. They renovated and maintained the gothic portal of the church, the secret room and ancient bell towers giving renewed life to the whole square.
Accommodation
The 4 rooms at La Locandea di San Francesco are on the first floor and all have air-conditioning, satellite TV, DVD player and internet connection. The beds are queen or king size and each room is furnished with antiques. The rooms are delightfully simple and uncluttered. The secret room (La stanza segreta), which was discovered during the restoration has been transformed into a cosy sitting room and is part of the suite. Most of the spacious bathrooms have wonderful views and guests can enjoy the fresh aroma of the Hermes products when they take a shower. Rooms have also telephone, minibar and safe and there is a collection of DVDs available.
Activities
The reception area has a sitting room and library and is where guests can enjoy their breakfast. From April to October there is a season of Jazz concerts held at the Locanda's enoteca 'E Lucevan le Stelle'. Locanda San Francesco offers the perfect base from which to explore the Val d'Orcia, the hill towns of southern Tuscany, Siena and the west side of Umbria.
Dining
E Lucevan le Stelle, the enoteca (open March-October), and La Locanda are both run by a winemaker family and are in the same building that looks into the Piazza San Francesco. There is a wonderful terrace which catches the sun and where guests can enjoy wine from some of Tuscany's best estates. Cheeses, salamis and other simple dishes are served at any time of the day and there is a wonderful selection of local produce on sale.
Rates
Rates are per room per night and include breakfast and taxes. Rates also include use of the internet at the internet desk and parking. Internet in the rooms is extra at Euros 10 per day.
