The Dutch House-Bandarawela is owned and run by former antique dealers from Richmond-Upon-Thames, England who settled in Sri Lanka some 10 years ago. A stay at this small chic hotel is unique, with the whole house for the exclusive use of 2 guests. The 18th-century Cape-Dutch style architecture exhibits the colonial charm for which The Dutch House-Bandarawela is becoming renowned, successfully combining period features in keeping with the Dutch past, yet providing comfortable bedrooms with sensibly designed modern bathrooms.
Accommodation
The 3 large comfortable bedrooms with attractive hardwood flooring and high beamed ceilings all have stunning views of the surrounding mountains. Two of the rooms are fitted with large four poster beds with comfortable mattresses and duck down pillows, and the third bedroom is furnished with 2 single antique beds, including one in solid satinwood. All 3 bathrooms, two of which are en-suite, are fitted with high quality sanitary ware including bidets.
Activities
The Dutch House-Bandarawela is conveniently located in a premier location between the hill capital of Kandy and the national safari parks in the south of the island. The villa is set amongst the lush tea gardens, offering superb walks that trail the surrounding tea estates and mountains, making this the perfect destination for a relaxing holiday, or as a base for touring the southern Hill Country. The long open verandah overlooking the garden and the mountains beyond ensures that guests can enjoy their complimentary morning coffee or afternoon tea with cakes whilst gazing at the flora and fauna.
It is not only beautiful scenery and tea factories that lure the traveller here; just a short distance away is the former home of Sir Thomas Villiers, a 19th-century tea planter. This natural stone mansion was constructed with help of Indian masons and still retains the original teak shingle roof, and is now a Benedictine Monastery and open to the public for viewing at weekends.
Dining
Furnished with fine antique furniture and pictures, the sitting/dining room features a large working fireplace inserted with beautiful blue and white Delft tiles.
Rates
Rates at The Dutch House are half board and include a full English breakfast and dinner, which includes a complimentary bottle of wine. Exclusive use of the villa is guaranteed for each booking. Rates include 5% service charge. A 10% surcharge is applicable over the Christmas period. Additional guests can be invited at USD 120 per guest (USD132 from 1st May 2011) with a maximum of 6 guests allowed. Children under 9 years of age are not accepted. Payment of 30% required to confirm booking.

Cancellation policy
Cancellation 30 days before arrival: 30% of total cost. Cancellation 3 weeks before arrival: 40% of total cost. Cancellation 2 weeks before arrival: 50% of total cost. Cancellation 1 week before arrival: 75% of total cost.
