About this Chic Retreat

La Moresca is a very chic small boutique hotel in the centre of Marina di Ragusa, Sicily. This chic retreat is minutes from the sea and Ragusa's famous beaches and 20 minutes from the UNESCO recognised Ragusa, Modica and Scicli. The maison itself is nearly a century old and is a good example of Sicilian art nouveau of the early 1900s. Guido Schembari, the most recent heir to this stunning building has thoughtfully restored it with the intention of creating something new while maintaining the history and charm of the original building and furnishings.

Restored antiques sit alongside contemporary pieces by Castiglioni, Artemide and Eames while local artists, photographer Giuseppe Leone and painter Giovanni Lissandrello adorn the walls. The original coloured cement and granolithic flagstones were found during the restoration and reused in a new pattern of parallel lines linking the traditions of the house with a new design & modern ambience. Wherever possible, ecological solutions have been applied such as solar-powered water heating and low energy lighting and La Moresca has been appointed as an official Eco Hotel for its efforts. This charming luxury hotel works on a bed and breakfast basis as there is so much to choose from for dining out in the area. Food lovers will be spoilt by the regional products from the celebrated chocolate of Modica to Caciocavallo Ragusano cheese and the Monti Iblei olive oil.

Accommodation

La Moresca has just 15 en-suite rooms, each decorated in a minimal style using a mix of traditional antique beds and original furniture and contemporary design pieces. Rooms use a simple palette of white and olive green where flashes of colour stand out against the crisp white Italian cotton sheets and all has an elegant, calm ambience. All rooms have individually controlled air-conditioning and heating, soundproofing, Satellite TVs, radios, mini-bars and menu-driven internet connection. The en-suite bathrooms have showers and luxury bath products, towels and slippers are provided.

Activities

Ragusa is a province rich in nature, archaeology and architecture. You will find elements of Greek, Roman, Siculi and Byzantine archaeology as well as baroque and neo-classical art and architecture. For a real Baroque treat, visit the UNESCO designated "Baroque triangle" of Ragusa, Modica and Scicli. Visit the cheese and olive oil producers or take a wine-tasting excursion and sample Cerasuolo di Vittoria, a D.O.C.G. wine from Piana di Vittoria and a prized Iblean product. Of course, you may wish to simply head down to Ragusa's beautiful sandy beaches, just minutes from this chic retreat.

Dining

La Moresca serve a traditional Italian buffet breakfast with sweet and savoury options including cereals, fruit and local cheeses, all served in the caffetteria.
