Hotel Signum - Sicily, Italy
About this Chic Retreat
What makes boutique hotel Hotel Signum unique is that the owners Clara and Michele were born on Salina. In 1988 they started to create their dream, but shortly after it was closed down and given a seal or 'signum' in Latin. They had to work very hard at persuading the village and the Mayor to have a change of heart and they eventually succeeded and were able to continue with their venture and Hotel Signum was born. Guests from all over the world come to this small boutique hotel again and again to experience wonderful hospitality in an understated setting.
Accommodation
The simple, but charming rooms at Hotel Signum are named after flowers and plants from the island and each room is as unique. The rooms in this boutique hotel are filled with antiques and some have balconies and terraces with views of the garden and the sea. There is a room to suit every taste and budget here.
Activities
Hotel Signum has the most exclusive spa in the Aeolian Islands where the geothermic water is rich in minerals. Treatments include the finest of natural- therapy techniques and the philosophy of the centre follows the lines of old Eolian thermal baths, believed to be the most ancient in Europe. Steam baths take place inside a Thermal Stove, inspired by the one of Saint Calogero in Lipari, built over 3500 years ago. Some treatments happen on a bed of thermal rose salt, others in a 19th century copper tubs. This small luxury hotel has a beautiful pool which is surrounded by lemon trees with magnificent views of the sea and the neighbouring volcanic island Stromboli and Panarea. For those wanting to relax inside there is a lovely room with antique sofas and chairs, full of books & magazines and in true Italian style there is also a television for guests to watch!
Dining
Drinks can be enjoyed at the bar or anywhere in this boutique hotel and lunch & dinner can be enjoyed al fresco on the terrace or on the verandah. The food at Hotel Signum is simple, fresh and delicious and prepared by none other than the owner Michele Caruso whose traditional Aeoli dishes are renowned throughout the islands and southern Italy.
