Azienda Agricola Mandranova is a small chic hotel on the di Vincenzo family farm a few miles from the south coast of Sicily in Palma di Montechiaro. Surrounded by olive groves - from which Silvia & Giuseppe produce their award-winning olive oil - this lovingly restored farmhouse and railway station is furnished with Sicilian ceramics and family heirlooms giving it a traditional, homely ambience. Coupled with Silvia's wonderful cooking, tours of the olive groves, boat trips with Giuseppe along the coast and proximity to the majestic ruins of Agrigento, this charming boutique hotel is perfect for exploring the region or simply enjoying good Sicilian hospitality and relaxing by the pool.

Accommodation

Azienda Agricola Mandranova has 10 doubles, 1 junior suite, 5 suites and a villa, each individually decorated with authentic Sicilian features and family heirlooms. Beautiful tiles from Caltagirone - famed for its ceramics production - line the floors and exposed beamed ceilings, rustic furnishings and charming beds from carved cherry-wood queen-size twins to wrought-iron fourposters with delicate white canopies give the rooms a warm & elegant feel.

Rooms are doubles, and the Tunisina room can also be a twin, and suites have various arrangements from 1 bedroom with sofa beds for extra guests in the living room to 2 bedrooms with additional sofa beds. For those who want a little extra independence, Casello and Robazza are both self-catering with kitchens and living rooms. Casello can fit up to 8 guests while Robazza can accommodate 6, great for families or groups of friends. Robazza also has a panoramic terrace and private pool.

En-suite bathrooms come with either bath or shower and the Piccionaia room has a shower room & outdoor shower on the large terrace with wonderful views of the olive groves and the garden's palm trees. All rooms have air-conditioning & central heating.

Activities

Silvia not only cooks up a storm, but offers cookery classes where guests can learn to make her delicious almond cake and Sicilian pasta dishes using ingredients from the garden and Mandranova's sumptuous olive oils.

The friendly owners also offer tours of the olive groves giving an interesting insight into how they produce their fine oils. Down on the coast, Mandranova have their own 38-foot boat, the Tornado, and Giuseppe takes guests out dophin spotting - or swimming in the warm season - with a tasty lunch on the small island of Saint Nicola Rock ending with a trip to the fish market in Port Licati. The ancient Parthenon at Agrigento is just half an hour from Mandranova and Palma di Montechiaro has some beautiful old architectural delights.

From its hilltop position, the small fresh-water swimming pool has lovely views and guests can have a pre-dinner tipple out in the garden or curled up by the TV in one of the living rooms.

Dining

Meal times at Azienda Agricola Mandranova are a real treat. Silvia cooks traditional Sicilian dishes which use fresh local ingredients, veg from the garden and olive oil right from the groves around the farmhouse. Guests meet for meals in the warmly-lit restaurant or dine alfresco on the terrace.
