Just south of Naples within the Cilento National Park lies this authentic Italian estate, San Fantino. Situated on the Tyrrhenian coast this estate is home to Locanda San Fantino a 7 room boutique hotel which oozes character and charm. Owner Sebastiano Petrilli grew bored of his life as an investment banker in London and the fast pace of life that went with it and returned to Italy and his famliy's 17th-century dilapidated estate to set up a self-sufficient, eco-friendly retreat. His mission is now accomplished; renovated and restored the San Fantino estate is a place where wild plants grow and animals roam free. The rich and fertile land on the estate produces olive oil, wines, fruits, vegetables, cheeses and cured meats. Locanda San Fantino sits against the dramatic backdrop of mountains with views of the sea and the surrounding vineyards, olive trees & orchards.

The San Fantino estate is spread across 12 acres and other properties are situated at the foot of the mountain and all the way down to the rocks of the magnificent sea coastline. Solar-powered, Locanda San Fantino is an old farmhouse which has been turned into one of Italy's best kept secrets with 7 simple boutique hotel bedrooms, pretty garden and pool. Within the estate is also a 17th Century country house that has been untouched for 200 years.

Sea: the Masseta wild coastline is one of extraordinary beauty with 15 miles only accessible by foot or by boat from the enchanting harbour of Scario just 3 miles away.  The Palinuro beach is over 3 miles long and is reachable by car. Except for July and August which are the busiest two months of the year, the nearby beaches are tourist-free and you almost feel as though you are on your own private island.

River: just 20 minutes drive away there is the beautiful river Bussento with turquoise waters, pebble beaches and overhanging trees, an idyllic spot to sunbathe, take a dip and make a barbecue.

Trekking: beautiful walks can be had all around the Estate, on the cliffs overlooking the sea and on the mountain. The area has the highest biodiversity in terms of flora of Europe. There are over 170 species of wild orchid and countless flowers and trees.

Cultural: the area is rich with charming, well preserved medieval villages, ancient archaeological sites, monasteries and churches.

The estate organizes cooking, foraging and Yoga courses throughout the year.

Kundalini Yoga (the Yoga of awareness) sessions take place at San Fantino in the morning and the afternoon. Thai Yoga massage is also available.

Most food served at Locanda San Fantino comes from the estate’s own vegetable garden and fruit orchards.  The cheese and meats come from local shepherds and the seafood is fresh from the sea caught by local fishermen. Home produced wines, limoncello and other liquors, herbal teas, lemonade and tomato juice for the Bloody Mary are just some of the drinks to choose from.

Wine, olive oil and other delicious products can be bought during your stay to take home. Some of the best ice cream in Italy comes from nearby Scario as well as some mouth-watering patisseries, so don't leave without having tried them!  There are some authentic pizzerias and restaurants within walking distance of San Fantino and others in Scario, just 7 minutes drive away.

If renting San Fantino as a whole, a cook and additional staff can be organised to prepare lunch, dinner and serve drinks.
