Hotel Particulier - Provence, France
About this Chic Retreat
Hotel Particulier is ideally located in one of the oldest districts of Arles called La Roquette. The majestic facade nestles in a narrow street, just 10 min walk from the amphitheatre. The architecture of Hotel Particulier is representative of elegant homes built in Paris or in the provinces by the Napoleon nobility in the beginning of the 17th century. The hotel, hiding behind a monumental gate, will allure those passionate about history and beautiful residences, but also guests searching for a peaceful escape and a gorgeous blend of traditional elegance and contemporary minimalism. "I immediately fell in love with this elegant house", says Brigitte Pagès, the owner. All rooms have been kept the way they were at the beginning of the century, giving the feeling of entering a beautiful private house.
Accommodation
All of Hotel Particulier's 13 suites are furnished differently but they are all bright and full of natural light. All have a huge separate bathroom that is like a room in itself. The Pink Suite is favoured by artists, writers and celebrities - it is huge and bright facing the pool and the garden. A four-poster bed imported from Rajasthan, large sofa and comfortable armchairs fill the room. The white bathroom has an iron bathtub dating from the 30s and a shower facing a private terrace. The newest suites use white furniture, walls and materials with bold pieces of artwork and plants contrasting starkly with the background creating a peaceful atmosphere which brings together contemporary design with a natural feel.
A huge stairway leads to the first floor and to the other suites. Inbetween the ground floor and the first floor is the only single room of the hotel which used to be the maid's room. Here you will find whitewashed walls and a bed in an alcove, a romantic bassin from the 19th century. Between the pool and the gate, a narrow staircase leads to other suites located on the first floor of what used to be a stable. With their lower ceilings and fireplaces, they are reminiscent of the seaside villas from the 20s. Very different in style from the other suites, these are mostly recommended for families or groups of friends.
