About this Chic Retreat
Château de Massillan dates back to 1550 when it was owned by Diane de Poitiers, the famous lover of Henry the second. This contemporary chic hotel is situated near Orange and Avignon just 10 minutes off the 'autoroute de soleil'. Chateau de Massillan is surrounded by world famous vineyards such as Chateau Neuf du Pape, Gigondas, Beaumes de Venise. There are many historical attractions within a 30 minute drive; the Ancient Roman Theatre in Orange (every year in July and August world renown open-air operas are staged), Vaison la Romaine, Pont du Gard, the Gorges de l'Ardeche and the Palace du Papes in Avignon. The wonderful authentic Provencal landscape makes it a perfect place for cycling, hiking, horse riding and canoeing. The 4 airports in easy reach of the hotel are, Marseille, Monpellier, Avignon and the nearest International airport is Nimes.
Accommodation
Château de Massillan has 12 rooms all individually designed and decorated by Babylon design Ltd. The original features are combined with the highest quality modern furniture, antiques, bed linen and specially designed products such as massive limestone sinks. Many of the bathrooms offer a separate bath and shower. Air conditioning is available in all south facing rooms. The suites have large terraces which open to the courtyard. All of Chateau de Massillan's rooms have beautiful views.
Activities
Château de Massillan has 24 acres of parkland, with a herb garden, a 40 metre long pond, a pine wood, a meadow and a 19th century walled vegetable garden which provides fruits and vegetables for the kitchen. The restaurant opens out to a very large courtyard which features a contemporary fountain. Opposite the restaurant is a second relaxation area where pre and post dinner drinks are served. To the east of the fountain is the 14ft long swimming pool.
Dining
The restaurant serves high quality French/international cuisine from Chef Jonathan CHIRI, and offers a considerable wine list of French wines selected by Château de Massillan's Sommelier.
Rates
Rates at Chateau de Massillan are per room per night. Breakfast is 16 euros per person. A baby's cot is available at 30 euros per day and is available in all rooms except the standard rooms. An extra bed for a third person is available in some rooms at EUR 60 per night.
