Rotarius B and B - Piedmont, Italy

About this Chic Retreat

Rotarius B&B is a truly unique luxury suite, set inside a 13th-century tower in "Roero di Monteu" Palace in Piedmont's Asti. Antiques and contemporary art have been expertly blended by architects Elisabetta Tovo and Filippo Cornero and the design is utterly absorbing. With a gorgeous view of the rooftops of Asti, this boutique B&B is the perfect Italian bolthole.

Accommodation

A home from home, Rotarius B&B has built just one 650 sq ft suite in this beautiful medieval tower. They have collected an amazing array of contemporary and period art & furniture, and there are some really eye-catching pieces. Luxury design and old-fashioned style work together beautifully, and musical guests can enjoy use of the upright piano. Wonderful views of Asti and the surrounding mountains can be seen from the 2 biforate windows and the suite has its own private entrance through a terrace overlooking the old town. There is a king-size bed with an extremely comfortable mattress, and within the suite's brick walls, an interesting variety of textures & materials have been used including soft rugs, gauze curtains, and wood, ceramic & metal sculptures. The suite comes with a satellite plasma TV and guests have access to highspeed WIFI. There is a private living space where breakfast is served and an en-suite bathroom. An added bonus, the drinks in the mini-bar are free!

Activities

The historical town square of Asti is full of architectural delights, with many medieval buildings still intact. It is easy to spend the day exploring the maze of streets around Rotarius B&B. There are a number of medieval churches worth a visit including the 13th-century Cattedrale di Santa Maria, which has 18th-century frescoes and a stunning mosaic floor in the presbytery. To really experience a piece of medieval history, try and stay on the 3rd Sunday of September when Asti has its Palio in which 21 contenders race horses bareback and 1200 medieval costumed actors parade the streets. There is a club a few minutes from the hotel with tennis courts, a small pool and a bar and your hosts will happily arrange reservations at any time for guests.

Visit Asti from between May and the end of July to experience the summer festivities, with the Patron's festival in May and in June and July there are open-air theatre and contemporary music festivals.

Dining

Breakfast is served in the Rotarius B&B's own dining room by the owners themselves. It is worth visiting between October and December to sample the provinces white truffles, and a week before the Palio is the famous Festival Delle Sagre, when all the local food and wine can be sampled, and everyone dresses in costume and parades along Asti's streets. Asti is also famous for its local wines, in particular Asti Spumante which is great served with dessert.
