Pousada do Ouro is a small boutique hotel in the charming colonial town of Paraty, Rio de Janeiro. Behind the whitewashed 18th-century façade, interiors are simple and stylish, with bold colours creating a lively tone against the fresh white walls and linens. Just a few metres and you reach the sea where you can enjoy a cruise across the bay, head out for a day of snorkelling or just relax on the sandy beaches of the beautiful surrounding islands. The fertile tropical landscape is great for hiking or walks and after the days explorations, you can relax with a cocktail by the swimming pool or enjoy a massage or treatment at the pousada's Asian Day Spa. So welcoming & stylish is this chic pousada that the likes of Mick Jagger and various important writers and photographers arriving for the town's literature and photography festivals have been among the celebrities to stay, though it still maintains an atmosphere of privacy & tranquillity.

Accommodation

There are 26 individually-decorated rooms & suites at Pousada do Ouro, each with a simple, fresh feel with crisp white linens, woven white rugs, dark woods and a collection of artworks depicting the local flora & fauna. Choose from standard or superior apartments and the Suite Ouro in the charming villa attached to the pousada, or the special suites (triple or quadruple) which are in the main building. All rooms have en-suite bathrooms with showers and towels and luxury bath products are provided. Two of the rooms in the superior category have private balconies, while for the best views, check into the Suite Ouro where you can see right over the rooftops of Paraty to the sea on one side, and on the other, the lush green mountains. This penthouse suite works well for families with a double and single bed, or works well as a large romantic suite for 2. Some of the suites can accommodate up to 2 extra beds so are great for groups of friends or families and all rooms have LCD TVs and minibars.

Activities

Pousada do Ouro's luxurious spa has a variety of Asian massage and health & beauty treatments to help you relax & unwind, though the stunning location will already have you well on the way. Just metres from the coastline, the crystal clear waters are great for snorkelling, swimming & fishing, while you can take a trip on a chartered schooner to the nearby bays and islands with their gorgeous unspoilt beaches. Take a hike to the rainforest and enjoy a picnic by the cascading waterfalls, or spend a lazy day exploring the architecture of this historical colonial town. Back at the pousada, relaxed guests can meet in the games room or at the bar, take a dip in the outdoor swimming pool or rejuvenate in the Turkish bath and sauna.

Dining

A delicious buffet breakfast is served each day, with fresh juices and fruit, home-made yoghurt, eggs-to-order, breads and home-made cakes, turkey, ham and cheeses. For dinner, guests can enjoy food from the sister restaurant Punto Divino served at the Pousada. Enjoy delicious Italian fare with specialities such as octopus Carpaccio and grouper fish ravioli at the bar, or by the pool. Each day, either lunch or dinner can be enjoyed, Punto Divino open 6 days a week, though there are a variety of restaurants, including some great seafood eateries, for dining out.

Rates

Rates at Pousada do Ouro are per room per night and do not include the 10% service fee. Baby cots are complimentary (recommended for use in superior or suite but available in all). Extra beds for children are only available in suites and are free of charge for children under 6 years if there is only one.

Cancellation policy

Cancellations made up to 72 hours prior to check in will receive a refund of the deposit fee. In case of cancellations within 72 hours of check in, the deposit will not be refunded and no credit will be given. In case of early-departures, 12 hours notice is required or the full amount will be charged with no credit given.
