Pousada Bromelias is a small ecological retreat hotel 20 minutes from the historical centre of the colonial town of Paraty. Set amid flourishing tropical gardens, there are just 10 luxuriously-appointed bungalows, while waterfalls and spectacular scenery create the perfect romantic backdrop. Take a swim in the pretty natural pool, wake up with a waterfall shower or lounge by the swimming pool before heading off on a hike to explore this exquisite natural paradise. The restaurant offers guests simple traditional cuisine and the bar staff mix a mean caipirinha. Want to really revitalise? Enjoy a Finnish sauna before plunging into the neighbouring waterfall and follow it off with a relaxing hot stones massage and a spot of star gazing before bed.

Accommodation

There are 10 individually-decorated bungalows at Pousada Bromelias, each discretely positioned to provide you with the perfect romantic hideaway. The Luxury Bungalows can accommodate up to 3 guests, while the Standards can sleep 4, and all of these wooden suites have a beautiful natural style incorporating woodwork, stone, fine white linens, weaving and straw work and splashes of natural colour, from leaf green to copper orange and turquoise. The queen-size beds are fitted with luxurious linens and feather pillows, with many fitted with flowing white canopies, and there are one or two futon-style sofa beds in the living rooms. All rooms have air-conditioning, ceiling fans, TVs (and DVD players in Luxury Bungalows) and mini bars and the luxurious bathrooms have piquet bath robes, towels and handmade soaps & bath salts made at the pousada. At dinner time, enjoy a peaceful meal on your private terrace and afterwards take a snooze in your hammock or if you're staying in the Luxury Bungalow, enjoy a relaxing soak in your in-room Jacuzzi.

Activities

There is plenty to do right on the estate, with its pretty natural pool & waterfalls, outdoor swimming pool, Finnish Sauna and Spa area which offers a range of beauty & body therapies. There are tennis courts right on site as well as a gym, while less vigorous activities are offered in the games room with snooker, chess & card games. If you are a bird watching fan, this is the place for you, with a huge variety of species in the area and your hosts are happy to arrange tours. When you've had your fill of nature, if that's possible, you can head to the historical centre of Paraty with its rich cultural history, a mix of masonry symbols, colonial architecture, pés-de-moleque walkways and ancient churches. There are some great boutique shops and the nightlife is a real draw with some fabulous bars & clubs to choose from, or simply head down for a delicious dinner. Pousada Bromelias is also just 10 minutes from some of the region's best beaches & islands. Explore the seas by scuba diving or take a tour on a fishing boat or yacht or if you want to discover the delights inland, why not rent a bicycle or try horse riding. Whatever it is you want to try, you are sure to find it in this wonderful hideaway, and the helpful staff are to hand with some great local advice.

Dining

The restaurant serves up a delicious buffet breakfast and a simple local menu of traditional dishes for lunch, dinner & snacks, all spiced with herbs from the kitchen garden. Warm up in winter with a cheese or chocolate fondue accompanied by one of the great wines from Pousada Bromelias' fully-stocked cellar and of course you must try Paraty's blend of cachacas at the bar. The chef is happy to tailor the menu to meet your needs

Rates

Rates at Pousada Bromelias are per bungalow per night and include breakfast and all taxes. They are not valid for holiday season for which rates are available on request. A 10% service fee applies in the restaurant. One child of up to 5 years old can be accommodated free of charge in each bungalow with baby cots also available free of charge.

Bookings are confirmed by payment of 50% of the total booking cost.Cancellations made up to 8 days prior to arrival will not be charged a fee. Cancellations made within 8 days of arrival or no-shows will be charged the total cost of the booking.
