L'Abbaye-Chateau de Camon - Midi-Pyrenees, France

About this Chic Retreat

L'Abbaye-Château de Camon is an elegant and luxurious chambres d'hotes in France's Languedoc region. Owned and run by Katie and Peter Lawton (former General Manager of The Samling) this wonderful Château dates back to the 10th-century and is less than 10 minutes away from the medieval town of Mirepoix. Camon itself is known as the little Carcassonne and is a beautiful and ancient fortified village.

Accommodation

There is a choice of 15 beautifully and individually decorated rooms & suites at L'Abbaye-Château de Camon. Guests can expect fresh flowers, crisp bedlinen and antiques throughout. The large bedrooms are classically French with fat goose down duvets and cool cotton sheets. Peter and Katie's aim is simple: genuine hospitality without fuss in sumptuous surroundings. Twin rooms are also available and small dogs are accepted by prior arrangement for a small additional cost.

Activities

The castle and town of Carcassonne is within easy reach of L'Abbaye-Château de Camon and The Pyrenees with the ski resort The Monts d'Olmes is only 30 minutes away. There is a lovely pool for guests to enjoy or alternatively there is sailing and other nautical activities available at Lake Montbel which is only 10 minutes away. In the winter log fires burn in the salon, decorated with 18th-century canvasses depicting the four seasons, and in the summer meals are taken on the terrace overlooking the mountains or by the pool next to the 200 year-old magnolia tree. The cloistered garden, which was designed for prayer and reflection, is where you can enjoy utter tranquillity.

Dining

Food is an important part of the experience at L'Abbaye-Château de Camon: local, seasonal and fresh food cooked simply with an emphasis on flavour & quality.
