Port Rive Gauche - Languedoc, France

About this Chic Retreat

Port Rive Gauche is the newest gem of the Garrigae Resort luxury hotels list. Situated in Marseillan - a beautiful fishing village on the Mediterranean coast of Languedoc - this chic retreat certainly makes the most of its stunning Southern position. The 11 suites offer uninterrupted views of the sea and Port Rive Gauche is in a great location for relaxing strolls along the lagoon beach.

Accommodation

Each of Port Rive Gauche's 11 two-bedroom suites have conservatory style rooms which provide wonderful ocean views. The talented Garrigae design team has combined traditional Mediterranean elegance with a contemporary style in this beautiful boutique hotel. Lime washes, wood, iron-work and traditional textiles decorate the rooms and the floors are covered in locally-sourced flagstone. Each suite has a flatscreen TV & DVD player, WIFI, intelligent lighting and integrated music systems. Third floor rooms have spacious balconies and the fourth floor suites have large private roof terraces where guests can sunbathe in privacy.

Activities

There are a range of watersports to choose from at the port of Marseillan from sailing and waterskiing to kitesurfing, while the Etang du Thau is a perfect location for hikes and long walks. In the nearby Regional Park, guests can choose from a huge variety of activities, from horse riding and mountain biking to potholing and whitewater rafting. Keen fishermen can enjoy the beautiful clear waters of the River Orb.

There are many historical sites in the area to explore including 2 UNESCO World Heritage Sites: the walled City of Carcassonne and the Canal Du Midi. Wine lovers can delight in the famous vineyards of the region and foodies can sample the local seafood straight from the port.

Bikes are on offer free-of-charge as well as fishing rods, and after a busy day exploring, the Massage & Tea Room is the perfect place to relax & unwind.

Dining

Port Rive Gauche is in the perfect location for sampling Southern French cuisine. An obvious draw is the fresh seafood to be found in the various fishing ports along the coast, and Marseillan is particularly well-known for it's oyster cultivation. The daily market has a range of fresh produce to sample and there are many wonderful bars, delicatessens, bakeries and restaurants in the area, so take your pick. Visit Marseillan's Le Table d'Emilie, one of the best-loved restaurants on the coast.
