Duisdale House Hotel - Highlands, UK

About this Chic Retreat

Duisdale House Hotel is a small luxury hotel on a wooded hillside on the Isle of Skye. This chic retreat has a warm sense of hospitality and interiors befitting of a boutique house hotel - all rooms having recently received a stylish-makeover. Look out to lush gardens, historic forests and the romantic island coastline with the Atlantic foreshore just 150 metres from the hotel. Wonderful views can be enjoyed from all of the individually-styled rooms & suites, rich in style & luxury. This is the perfect romantic retreat in the wild nature of Scotland, where guests can explore the landscape and the new riverside trails within the hotel grounds or snuggle by the open-fire with a fine malt whiskey from the island distillery. Duisdale House Hotel is licensed for weddings and is ideal for larger groups.

Accommodation

Duisdale House Hotel has 17 individually-decorated rooms & the Garden Suite located in a cottage next to the hotel, all offering spectacular views out to the sea, the gardens or the woods. All of the rooms have been recently refurbished with a contemporary take on classic luxury. Rooms are decorated in bold prints, fine fabrics, dark wood furnishings, plump seating and a mix of classic four-posters and modern design beds depending on the style of the room. One of the rooms in the main house has a separate living area and the Garden Suite has a private entrance, a spacious living room, a bedroom with a queen-size bed and a dressing room. This stand-alone suite also has an open kitchen although breakfast is included in the rates so there is no need to prepare your own meals. Utensils are not provided so bring your own if you wish to use cook.

The four-poster bedrooms are extremely romantic with a few special touches for the perfect highland fling. En-suite bathrooms all feature baths and showers apart from the Garden Suite which has a shower only. Soft fluffy towels, bathrobes & slippers are provided on request and all rooms have Gilchrist & Soames bath products, flat screen TVs, tea/coffee making facilities & complimentary WiFi with a separate internet station on the first floor for guest use.

Activities

Duisdale House Hotel is a great escape for nature lovers and romantics. Rugged mountains and hills draw in rock climbers and hikers, and there are some particularly stunning vistas. Visit the Mealt Waterfall which drops 300 feet into the sea and offers a great viewing point for the Kilt Rock with its columns of dolerite in the cliffside. Unexpected rock formations can be found across the island creating a wonderful landscape for hiking, cycling and horse riding. Take a walk along the sandy beaches before returning to the hotel for a drink in the cosy bar by the log-fire. Whiskey connoisseurs, or indeed novices, can take a visit to the Talisker Distillery & Visitor Centre and enjoy the sweet full-bodied single malt that is produced on the isle. Your welcoming hosts are happy to recommend and organise activities in and around Skye and have some particularly good romantic ideas to surprise your loved one.

Between April and September, guests can take a trip in the hotel's private yacht with skipper Ken Gunn the amiable host and master mariner and his day skipper partner, Anne. Sail to the Sound of Sleat, Loch Nevis, Rhum, Eigg & Sandaig Island where Gavin Maxwell wrote Ring of Bright Water. Guests can enjoy a champagne lunch on board, often among the company of whales, basking sharks, seals, otters, porpoise & many species of seabirds. The yacht is available for exclusive use and for wedding parties.

Dining

Dine in Duisdale's luxurious restaurant with its bold contemporary style which complements the food of Head Chef George McCallum.   The conservatory area offers views of the garden, perfect for a light lunch, while the romantic dining room has tall-backed leather chairs and tables set with fine linens. The menu makes the most of the wealth of great produce on the island. The award-winning restaurant is a real draw in itself and everything from the fish and meat to the vegetables is sourced from local suppliers. For breakfast, enjoy a full Scottish breakfast, the best way to refuel before setting off on another island adventure.
