Lime Wood - Hampshire, UK

About this Chic Retreat

Lime Wood  continues to be one of the best luxury country house hotels in the UK. Set in the ancient New Forest, just 5 minutes from the charming town of Lyndhurst in Hampshire, Lime Wood is a luxury country house hotel with a difference, in fact many differences! Five years in the making, using the best of British creative talents, Lime Wood is now seen as one of the best family-friendly luxury hotels in the whole of the British Isles.  Ben Pentreath and Charles Morris were the Architects extraordinaires, the sumptuous, yet relaxed interiors created by David Collins and Luke Holder works his magic in the kitchen.  The result is a beautifully restored Regency country house full of contemporary twists with classically designed interiors.  The original charm of the 13th-century hunting lodge still shines through and the use of local materials including stone and ash, complement the eclectic mix of antiques, design pieces and selected art work. Lime Wood is perfect for weekend breaks, a mid-week dash, or an escape from home with the family and four legged friends. February 2013 saw the opening of the brand new restaurant Hartnett Holder & co.  Luke Holder, Lime Wood’s head chef, with Angela Hartnett and their team, will be creating ‘chefs’ home-cooked food, not chefs’ food cooked for restaurants.’

Accommodation

Ben Pentreath restored the main house and extensions with their 16 bedrooms as well as many of the stunning interior rooms.  Charles Morris, whose previous work includes the Orchard Room at Highgrove, designed the additional outbuildings which house 11 suites and 2 guest rooms.  Some of the rooms and suites have their own wood burning stoves, perfect for a cold winters night with a creamy hot chocolate.  The rooms are split between the main house and the various lodges and outbuildings, but what they all have in common is that they are all large, comfortable and incredibly indulgent.  The rooms at Lime Wood have been so cleverly put together the antiques, works of art and handmade furniture that surround you make you feel as though you are staying at a very good friends house who has immaculate taste and style.  Don't be surprised if you find yourself giving your room a makeover as soon as you get home!  Some of the en-suite bathrooms feature free standing baths and all of the rooms have king size beds, WiFi, satellite TV, DVD player, iPod docking stations and of course wonderfully big fluffy gowns.  If you fancy a midnight feast you can always raid your very own in-room pantry!

NEW FOR 2014

Lime Wood has opened the two Forest Cottages which are located in the grounds, surrounded by forest and meadows.  These two storey family suites melt into their surroundings and are perfect for those looking for a little more privacy and indepence as they both have a kitchenette, dining and living area with snug log fires.
Both cottages have an upstairs master bedroom with four poster bed, en-suite bathroom with free standing bath and double monsoon shower.  Cottage 1 has a downstairs twin bedroom whereas Cottage 2 has an upstairs bunk bedroom, both with an additional shower bathroom. These cottages can be interconnecting making them perfect for larger families or groups.  The Forest Cabin sits near the cottages and is a cosy ground floor family suite that sleeps 4 with a multipurpose kitchenette, dining and living area with a log fire.

Activities

The Herb House Spa is where guests can go and be totally cocooned and pampered.  Set in the forest it has a state-of-the-art Technogym and offers only the best holistic and Ayurvedic therapies putting it in a league of its own.  The huge Sauna enjoys forest views, and the Bath House has its own indoor pool.  You can guess what happens in the Mud House and the Bath Garden is a double treatment room with its own bubbling outdoor pool for those looking to enjoy some relaxation time together. At Lime Wood they understand that the changing rooms experience can be sterile and frankly rather unpleasant so they have create a wonderful homely feel, more akin to a drawing room than a smelly locker room, as well as private baths to soak in.  Refreshing drinks or a herbal tea can be enjoyed on the roof garden which is filled with fresh herbs.  The Raw Bar serves an inspirational selection of fresh salads, raw fish, smoothies and cocktails.

If exercise in the fresh air is more your thing there are plenty of jogging, hiking and cycling trails to enjoy (complimentary bicycles are provided).   During the cooler months why not play a game of pool or enjoy an evening drink in the library.

Dining

Lime Wood has managed to succeed where many other luxury hotels have failed: offering a choice of restaurants for both those looking for relaxation in an informal setting and for others who are wanting a little bit more glamour. Hartnett Holder & Co is Lime Wood's new restaurant where guests can relax, sink back into the George Smith chairs and sofas and enjoy food as it should be: fresh, plentiful and home made.

Dark oak distressed-look tables are clad with simple, brushed silver cutlery and ‘wee willie winkie’ candle sticks and small plates and bowls are the china of choice from which guests are encouraged to share and taste just as Italians do.

The Scullery is a brasserie-style room where guests can enjoy a breakfast feast.
