About this Chic Retreat
Riad Idrissy is the creation of linguist and entrepreneur John Twomey, owner of the famous Ten Bells Pub in Spitalfields, London. Situated at the heart of Fez medina this charming 4 suite riad is expertly run by Robert Johnstone (designer, cook and gardener!) who is also responsible for the lovely interiors and who worked at The Wolsley for 10 years and who was Maitre D' at The Ivy restaurant. Next to the Riad is the Ruined Garden which is in the remains of a rather grand house that was abandoned many years ago, however the mosaic floors and fountains remain, lovingly restored and turned into a magical secret garden by Robert and his green fingers. Soon to open in the garden the cafe will serve street food at lunch time and afternoon tea (though private to guests until midday).
Accommodation
Each of the air-conditioned 4 suites at Riad Idrissy have been decorated with flair and imagination by Robert using local and authentic products, materials and antiques. All of them have private bathrooms with rain showers, mist-free mirrors, heated towel rails, towels and local products. There is complimentary WiFi throughout the riad, but in keeping with the traditional life of the medina the riad is telephone and television free. There are 3 double rooms and one room with 2 singles which also has a sofa bed.
Dining
The sumptuous Riad Idrissy breakfast can be taken anywhere within the house or garden. Lunch and afternoon teas are served in the Ruined Garden Cafe and sundowners can be enjoyed on the roof terrace with views across Fez. Many of the herbs and cut flowers used in the Riad are grown in the Ruined Garden. Ask nicely and Robert might even cook you dinner!
