Riad Fes - Fez, Morocco

About this Chic Retreat

Riad Fes is a small luxury hotel at the centre of Fez Medina. The Moroccan owner, an architect by occupation, has a serious eye for style, and the result is a rich blend of opulent styles from around the world. Moorish art, Alhambra-style patios and Baroque design combine in this spacious riad, where antique pieces and luxurious contemporary furnishings have been seamlessly put together. Choose from vast suites or intimate doubles, all decorated with intricately carved wooden furniture, zellige tiles and fine fabrics. This chic retreat is in a great position from which to explore the bustling medina, and after a day haggling in the souks and markets, guests can take a cooling dip in the swimming pool and a rejuvenating massage and hammam treatment. This luxurious riad also has a fine restaurant serving gourmet Moroccan food and a cosy lounge & bar, a great place to end a busy day in the city. If this wasn't enough, the service is impeccable with a great team of attentive staff.

Accommodation

There are 26 rooms & suites in Riad Fes, each one beautifully-appointed with traditional Moroccan fabrics, elaborate furniture and antiques from around the world. Ranging in size from the 30 sqm Standard Rooms to the 90 sqm Royal Suite, these high-ceilinged and spacious rooms offer tranquil respite from the ancient city streets. All rooms have air-conditioning, tadelakt or Carrare marble en-suite bathrooms, Egyptian cotton sheets, Satellite TV (some with DVD players), CD players, bathrobes, slippers and mini-bars. Some of the rooms also have shared or private terraces or balconies.

For the utmost in luxury, stay in the Royal Suite with its restored carved ceiling and elaborate stucco work. The bedroom overlooks the pool & garden while views of the medina can be enjoyed from the lounge and spacious bathroom, complete with shower & separate bathtub. Guests of this elegant suite can enjoy breakfast from their own private terrace with views out to the Atlas Mountains.

Activities

Riad Fes is divided around 3 patio courtyards, each with a distinctive style. Our favourite is the Baroque Patio, a classy mix of traditional Moroccan architecture and Baroque style with crystal lighting, marble, grey tadelakt and black zellige tiling used to dramatic effect. The roof-top terrace affords panoramic views of the city and the Atlas Mountains, great for sunbathing by day or a romantic evening in. Take off the heat with a swim in the large swimming pool in the patio garden. There is a hammam where guests can have a body treatment with black soap and ghassoul or take a massage or beauty treatment. Fez itself is a remarkable city, with a labyrinthine, ancient medina. Get lost in the souks and make your way to the ancient Kairaouine Mosque and the beautiful Nejarine Museum of Wooden Arts and Crafts before head up to the Merenid Tombs at sunset for incredible views over the ancient city. This luxury riad also offers a shuttle service to the Fes Royal Golf Club and staff are happy to arrange other excursions.

Dining

There are no less than 3 dining rooms in Riad Fes, L'Ambre with its simple oriental lines and contemporary design and L'Oriental and Le Salon Oriental which are traditionally Moorish in style with carved stucco and wooden ceilings. The menu offers traditional Moroccan cuisine with a modern twist and there is a family menu to cater for the kids. The delicious buffet breakfast is also served in L'Ambre.

L'Alcazar Bar is a great place to relax and meet new friends, with a choice of delicious cocktails, cognacs, whiskeys and wines.
