George in Rye - East Sussex, England

About this Chic Retreat

The George in Rye is in the centre of Rye , East Sussex and is easily one of the top boutique inns on the south coast. The building dates from 1575 and has been beautifully and sympathetically restored by the young and extremely talented owners Alex and Katie . The George is perfectly formed and perfectly put together and the style is that it isn't styled or contrived. There is a clever and natural mix of a bit of everything - contemporary & traditional , old & new - giving an authentic and informal atmosphere. Alex and Katie know their stuff; Alex used to be a management consultant in the industry and Katie a prop buyer and set decorator on films. Although The George in Rye is most definitely a chic hotel, we are reluctant to call it that - it is just so much more. BOOK NOW to avoid severe disappointment.

Accommodation

Comfort is the priority at The George in Rye - not funny looking bits of modern furniture which you perch on, or plastic chairs which cost a fortune but would look more at home in a dentist's surgery. Alex and Katie have spent the time sourcing the finest beds and the finest bed linens . They then chose a different colour palette for each room, finding individual pieces of furniture for each room, topping them off with marble-top baths , chrome power showers and Aveda products ..add a few gadgets to complete the picture including flat screen TVs, DVD library, tivoli clock radios and broadband and voila! you have the perfect set of ingredients to create the perfect room.

Activities

Rye itself is a medieval town with an intriguing past. Four miles from the white beach of Camber sands , the sea air is just as refreshing in the Winter as it is in the Summer.

Dining

The buzz starts in the bar and restaurant . The head chef Rod Grossmann previously worked at the restaurant Moro in London, owned by Alex's sister Sam Clark. His menu has a Mediterranean flavour incorporating the local and freshest ingredients from the nearby farms. Most of the fish is freshly caught by the trawlers of Rye Bay. The bar has a large selection of wine both by the glass and by the bottle.
