Eckington Manor - Worcestershire, England

About this Chic Retreat

Eckington Manor is a small boutique b & b and cookery school just outside the market town of Pershore, Worcestershire. This charming timber-framed house, thought to have been built in the 1200s, has been wonderfully restored to preserve the original flagstone floors, wooden beams and inglenook fireplaces, and is furnished with comfy antique leather sofas, upholstered armchairs and simple, luxurious fabrics and contemporary bathrooms. There are also some quirky modern additions, such as a chandelier made of antlers and a contemporary take on a traditional chaise longue in glamorous gold & turquoise. Set on a 260-acre working farm, breakfast is as fresh as you could wish, with much of the meat sourced from the farm itself and guests can really make the most of the local produce in the state-of-the-art Eckington Manor Cookery School.

Accommodation

There are 15 individually-decorated rooms at Eckington Manor, each with a stylish blend of opulent antiques and contemporary furnishings working wonderfully with the original features of this medieval house. Rooms are individually-styled with stunning features such as Fromental embroidered silk wallpaper, Designers Guild furniture and Mulberry throws and the Fired Earth bathrooms are equally luxurious. The rooms are divided between the main house, with a mix of king-size doubles and single rooms, Cyder Mill, a wonderfully-renovated listed barn with an additional 4 bedrooms, all with super-king beds and the newly-opened Milking Parlour - All rooms have private en-suite bathrooms, with the 2 single rooms sharing a large en-suite. Some have showers only, some have baths with combined showers and all have The White Company bath products. For the ultimate in luxury, try the Cyder Mill's spacious Deluxe Suite, which is as long as the building itself with a large bedroom, beautiful Fired-Earth free-standing tub, separate glass shower with LED lighting and a low-level dining table for a romantic evening meal. All rooms have flat screen TVs with freeview, WiFi access, tea and coffee making facilities, beds fitted with Egyptian cotton sheets and Siberian goose-down pillows, fluffy towels, hair-dryers and The White Company bath products.

Activities

Eckington Manor is perfectly placed for exploring Worcestershire and the Cotswolds, with great walks around Bredon and the Malvern Hills and for fishing, head to the River Avon. Horse-riding and shooting can also be arranged nearby. For shopping, head to the historic spa-town of Cheltenham, also home to the famous horse races, or the cathedral city of Worcester. The picturesque market town of Pershore, a short drive from this chic retreat, has a wonderful Abbey and a host of great pubs and restaurants. There are a number of National Trust houses nearby, such as Coughton Court, Snowshill Manor and Hanbury Hall and garden enthusiasts can visit Hidcote and Kiftsgate gardens, Croome Park and the Victorian gardens of Spetchley Park and Gardens. Golf can be booked at the Vale Golf Club, just 15 minutes away on the other side of Pershore.

Many guests choose to combine their trip with a cookery course at Eckington Manor, which caters for every level of experience from novice to expert. Making the most of the natural larder of Worcestershire's Vale of Evesham, guests will learn how to cook with confidence in the state-of-the-art kitchen. Courses include Italian, Thai, Great British Classics, Modern British, Bread and Fish classes, with special courses for children, teenagers, students and one exclusively for men. The farm itself breeds award-winning herds of cows, sheep and pigs and ingredients are sourced from the farm and local producers wherever possible. By evening, guests can retire to the comfy lounge and settle down by wood-burning stove.

Dining

Enjoy a delicious breakfast with farm-fresh eggs, homemade bread, preserves, marmalade and local honey, Eckington Manor Gloucester Olde Spot Sausage, home-cured bacon, home-made muesli and freshly-squeezed orange juice, all served in the cookery school dining room. For those off for a country walk, your hosts will happily prepare a picnic lunch and light suppers can be arranged in advance. The honesty bar and wine cellar has a great selection for an evening drink. Pre-organised dinner can be arranged for groups who have rented the entire property exclusively.
