Ski Lodge Engelberg is a luxury ski hotel in Engelberg, a well-kept secret in the ski world, catering for all levels of skiers from novices to adventurous experts. The rooms have a refreshing modern style, all refurbished by a hip team of Swedes who opened the hotel in 2007. Accommodation

There are 34 individually-styled rooms in Ski Lodge Engelberg. The style-conscious Swedish owners have banished all signs of stuffy Tyrolean leftovers and rooms are light & airy with tasteful print wallpapers, crisp white linens and thick duvets to cosy up at night. All rooms have en-suite bathrooms with showers, Scottish Fine Soap bath products, complimentary WiFi and LCD TVs with Cable for a relaxing evening in. Ski Lodge Engelberg has a mixture of 2 x 90 cm doubles and Grand Lit 140 cm beds in twin, double, single and triple rooms and there is one family room with 2 connecting doubles which sleeps up to 6 people.

Activities

With 82 km of pisted runs and snow that falls right through the spring months, Engelberg is a great choice for novices & experts with a variety of slopes including more than 2000 metres of vertical drop. The central European location brings heavy snowfalls and the expert staff will happily point out where fresh dumps have fallen. After a day out on the slopes, rest up in the wood-fired hot tub overlooking the mountains and relieve any post-ski aches in the sauna, kick back in the cosy bar or head into town to try out the local nightlife.

Engelberg is not all ski and there are a variety of other activities available. Foodies can try making cheese in the monastery, go on a delicious Swiss chocolate tasting tour or visit the vineyards. The mountains are great for hiking or try paragliding to enjoy the spectacular views. A tour under the glacier is a real experience and of course, the rugged natural surroundings are the perfect place for climbing.

Off-season, there is still much to do, including golfing, cross-country cycling, longboarding and boating on Vierwaldstaettersee.

Dining

The Rukas restaurant offers contemporary pan-European food, with a menu including dishes such as mussels with leeks and dried local ham, or veal with leek porcini and smoked milk foam. Ski Lodge Engelberg's head chef, Rukas, uses seasonal local produce wherever possible so the menu changes daily and diners can choose from the Skier's and á la carte menus. Accompany a warming feast with a beer brewed in the local monastery or a bottle of fine red. Relax in the bar after dinner and swap ski stories with the pros. The breakfast buffet will get the day off to a good start.

Rates

Rates at Ski Lodge Engelberg are per room per night including breakfast and sauna facilities. For single occupancy, CHF 20 will be added to the room rate and under 12s will be charged 50% of that price in an extra bed. Baby cots are provided at no extra fee. Bookings are normally required to be 1 week or longer but shorter stays can be arranged in the beginning of December, January and April.
