About this Chic Retreat
Poas Volcano Lodge was one of the first boutique hotels to open in Costa Rica whose government, in 2007, announced plans for it to become the first carbon-neutral country by 2021. Set against the backdrop of a protected sub-tropical cloud forest, this English-owned hideaway has stunning views of Poas Volcano and the northern Caribbean Plains. Recently renovated this Chic Retreat, which is equidistant from both the Pacific and Caribbean coastlines, was designed by one of the best architects in Costa Rica and it demonstrates how modern style and natural materials can work so well together. Most guests stay at Poas Volcano Lodge for 3-4 nights to enjoy and explore the surrounding area and to take a day to relax in front of the fire and soak up the surrounding view and landscape. Complimentary WiFi is available throughout the lodge.
Accommodation
The 12 rooms and suites at Poas Volcano Lodge are charming. Some of them have already been refurbished and each has its own charm and character. Book a Master Suite with a balcony if you can (there are 3 of these) as the views towards Poas Volcano are spectacular. The other 2 Master Suites have their own outside hot tubs and are just a hop and a skip from the cloud forest. Whilst they are smaller the 7 en-suite Garden Rooms all have a warm and cosy ambience with stone walls, wood panelling, soft lighting and comfortable beds and furnishings (some sleep up to 4 making them perfect for families). There is also one room available with wheelchair access.
Activities
Costa Rica is one of the greenest countries in the world and the cloud forest surrounding the lodge is a nature-lovers paradise full to the brim with a huge variety of hummingbirds, butterflies, orchids and the Resplendent Quetzal. Poas Volcano is obviously the main attraction and at almost a mile wide, is the largest active crater in the world. The Cloud Forest Trails are a must if you want to explore and admire the beauty of the land surrounding Poas Volcano Lodge and guided tours of the nearby dairy farm and coffee estate can be arranged.
Dining
Room service is available for light snacks and the Bromelia Restaurant serves a mixture of European and traditional Costa Rican dishes using locally sourced ingredients wherever possible.

Rates at Poas Volcano Lodge are per room per night including breakfast. Single rates available on request.

Cancellation policy
- Cancellation within 21 days of arrival 50% of full accommodation costs payable.
- Cancellation within 14 days of arrival 75% of full accommodation costs payable.
- Cancellation within 7 days of arrival 100% of full accommodation costs payable.
- In the event of premature departure the full extent of stay as originally booked and confirmed will be charged.
- Refunds and waiver of cancellation policies are at the discretion of management and the ability to re-let the rooms.
