Mansion Vitraux - Buenos Aires, Argentina

About this Chic Retreat

Mansion Vitraux offers a wonderful boutique experience right in the centre of the historical streets of San Telmo, Buenos Aires. Sleek contemporary furnishings and mood-enhancing colour schemes pervade this luxury hotel, which has a strong emphasis on comfort. This chic retreat is another stylish addition to the up-and-coming district, and is just round the corner from the Sunday antiques market. San Telmo is a great area to visit where tradition, colonial remnants and modern additions blend together and this is reflected in Mansion Vitraux itself, where avant-garde design meets tradition in this renovated mansion from the 1900s.

Accommodation

There are 12 individually themed rooms in Mansion Vitraux, where lighting, colour schemes and furnishings work together to create a variety of different moods. Middle Eastern antiques, distressed furniture and deep red walls against dark woods create a warm and seductive atmosphere in room 101, while 104 takes its inspiration from Ludwin Mies van der Rohe and his innovative architectural style, and comfort is taken a step further with sheepskin cushions on the thick comfortable beds. Imperial elegance is recreated in the opulent design of room 206 where antique pieces, golds, bronzes and deep pinks bring the bygone imperial era to mind with a contemporary twist.

The rooms are divided into three groups, Urban Rooms (22 sqm), Glam Rooms (25 sqm) and MV Style Rooms (30 sqm). All of the rooms have king-size or two single beds, air-conditioning, Egyptian cotton towels, free WIFI, cordless telephones, LCD TVs, bathrobes and en-suite bathrooms with sleek modern fixtures and either a shower or bath. The Glam Rooms have a view onto the sleek terrace with its strong lines, layered patio and swimming pool, as do some of the MV Style Rooms, while others look out to the city.

Activities

Mansion Vitraux has its own spa, great for refreshment after exploring Buenos Aires, which has a heated indoor swimming pool with hanging wicker seats and cool blue lighting and a sauna bath. For those who want to keep fit, there is a fitness centre in the hotel with a variety of machines and spinning bikes. There is a wonderful terrace, which in summer is used as a solarium with views of the domed church of Nestra Senora de Belen. This sleek contemporary patio, has a countercurrent swimming pool great for keen swimmers, a Jacuzzi for a relaxing soak, and in the evenings is a lovely spot for a romantic dinner under the stars. San Telmo is chock-full of arts and antiques shops, and on Sundays the Plaza Dorrego and cobblestoned Calle Defensa, just minutes from Mansion Vitraux, come alive with the bustling antiques market and its street performers, antique sellers, musicians, arts and craftsmen. Records, army paraphenalia, jewellery and paintings are among the goods on offer and it is easy to get lost among the myriad stalls. There is also a plethora of art galleries in the area. For a real taste of Argentinian culture, the plaza has an open-air tango party on Sunday evenings where impressive dancers take to the floor.

Dining

Sample the local pastries, breads, smoked meats and fruit in the breakfast service, either served in the Mansion Vitraux's restaurant, the Shiraz Cava & Lounge or by room service. The lunch and dinner menu is an inventive take on Argentinian cuisine, including a salad with rio negra pears and la rioja almonds dressing, pumpkin soup with San Pedro oranges and farm thyme, lamb and sea bass dishes and goat cheese pie. The mouthwatering menu is complemented by a large, expertly developed wine list, including of course the regional Malbec.
