Hotel Heritage

Hotel Heritage is an award-winning Relais & Chateaux hotel in the historic centre of Bruges. This 19th-century building is only a mile or so from the train station and is just a couple of minute's walk from the Belfort Belfry and market square. Explore the romance of Bruges by boat, carriage or on foot, admire the museums and breathe in the ubiquitous aroma of chocolate!
If you want to enjoy all the chocolate that Bruges has to offer guilt-free then head to the hotel's high-tech fitness centre to burn off some calories and keep up with your fitness! Sweat it out in the sauna or steam room and finish off with an in-room massage. Bruges is distinguished by its cobbled streets and medieval buildings and the medieval centre has been recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage site since 2000. The traffic-free Market Square features a 13th-century belfry with stunning views - it is definitely worth the 266 steps to get to the top! It gets busy early so we do recommend doing any sightseeing in the mornings; the canal trips start at 10am and are worth doing as they are only half an hour. There are plenty of ways to explore the city either by horse and carriage, on a yellow bus tour or on foot - as you can walk virtually everywhere we recommend you go on foot as long as you have comfy shoes with you (the cobbles are hard to walk on). Don't bother going to the chocolate museum, it really isn't very exciting and visits to and tastings at the chocolate shops are much more interesting! Chocolate Line near Simon Square is meant to be one of the best chocolate shops, but also one of the most expensive.
Guests at Hotel Heritage have a choice of breakfasts. For those in a hurry choose the light continental breakfast which is served in Le Magnum bar. The bakery basket, as you would expect, has a wonderful selection of freshly baked croissants, pastries and bread and organic butter which is complemented by homemade jams, marmalades and honey. Heading out for a day in the city on foot? Then go for the full buffet breakfast which is served in the dining room. Breakfast like a King on the large selection of local products and choose between eggs benedict, scrambled, fried or poached. Kids will love the Belgian waffles drizzled with honey or chocolate. Le Mystique, the hotel's restaurant, is an atmospheric dining experience offering guests a choice of traditional Belgian and French dishes with an international twist. Open from Tuesday to Saturday the restaurant uses ingredients that are always fresh and always local. As with most cities, the restaurants on the square are to be avoided - they are expensive tourist traps serving very mediocre food. There are plenty of great restaurants in Bruges but they need booking ahead, don't leave it until the last minute as you will be disappointed. Do head to Bittersweet for a hot chocolate; it only has 5 tables so ask the hotel to book.
