Hotel Torre Fiore - Basilicata, Italy
About this Chic Retreat
Hotel Torre Fiore is a newly-opened small boutique hotel near the charming village of Pisticci in the Basilicata region. This historical masseria, built in the 16th-century as a military outpost to guard against Turkish invasions, has received a stylish makeover, with design-led interiors that will please the most discerning of travellers. Come for the stunning valley views from the infinity pool, the luxuriously-appointed suites, the mouth-watering cocktails in the bar & lounge, the well-stocked wine cellar and the delicious southern Italian cuisine and discover the natural beauty, history and rich culture of this sun-soaked region. Off in the distance you can glimpse the Ionian Sea, with its sandy beaches, just a 15 km journey away.
Accommodation
There are 13 spacious rooms & suites at Hotel Torre Fiore, each innovatively designed to create the ultimate in modern luxury accommodation. The contemporary style works wonderfully with the original 16th-century features, the arched doorways, alcoves, stonework and wood-beamed ceilings and a selection of interesting antiques. Each room has a king-sized bed fitted with crisp white linens, in-suite Antonio Lupi bathtubs, flat screen TVs and iPod docking stations and gorgeous en-suite bathrooms with delicate tiling, 2-person showers, fluffy towels, bathrobes, slippers and luxury bath products. Choose from the 1-bedroom Deluxe and Classic rooms and Junior Suites, or the oversized Superior, La Stalla and Torre Suites which each have 2 bedrooms and separate living rooms.
Activities
From this beautiful location, you can enjoy views over the picturesque village of Pisticci and out in the distance, 15 km away, the Ionian Sea with its soft sandy beaches, great for a day trip. Enjoy a refreshing cocktail from the bar by the infinity pool or take a walk through the landscaped gardens and courtyard. The nearby Pisticci is great for shopping, café hopping and bars and there are some lovely little restaurants and ice-cream parlours. A little further, the remains of Craco, destroyed by earthquakes in medieval times and abandoned in the 60s is now just a silhouette of its former glory, although majestic in its own way. Of course your trip would not be complete without a trip to the Sassis of Matera, a UNESCO designated rock-hewn town with the first zone dating from the Palaeolithic period. There are many traditional and contemporary festival celebrated throughout the year in the region, from the Festa di San Rocco in August to the Lucania Film Festival, so enquire on booking if you want to get involved in the festivities. Golf enthusiasts can spend the day on the nearby course, to which private transportation can be arranged, and for those who want to explore by horse, there is a riding school just minutes away. To relax after a day out exploring, order an in-room massage treatment.
Dining
The Hotel Torre Fiore restaurant, which affords stunning views over the valley and sea. Open to guests and the public, the menu is a subtle infusion of international cuisine, with Italian interpretations of North American traditions such as brunch and thanksgiving dinner. There is a good wine cellar to choose from and a large selection of drinks at the bar.
