About this Chic Retreat

Onsea House is a privately owned, privately run luxury bed & breakfast in Arusha, Tanzania and is the perfect safari base or place to stay for those looking to climb Kilimanjaro. The level of comfort and quality of service has turned it more into a small boutique hotel than a guesthouse. Onsea House is a fully licensed hotel & restaurant managed by Belgian Chef Axel Janssens in partnership with a local business partner and locally hired staff.

Onsea House has been nominated for the 2nd consecutive year for the Best Safari House Award 2010 and are one of just 5 nominated as finalists for the Traveller's Choice Award 2010. New for autumn 2011 was neighbouring Machweo wellness retreat & fine dining bringing an additional 9 rooms and suites to the Onsea brand.

Accommodation

The Giraffe Suite and Guinea Fowl Room at Onsea House are in the main house and open onto an extensive shared terrace. The Giraffe Suite has a very bright and spacious bedroom with office & sitting area as well as complimentary WIFI. The views from the terrace are stunning and make this the perfect honeymoon suite or for those looking for a spacious room. The Guinea Fowl room is another romantic room decorated in earthy colours and it shares the large terrace with the Giraffe Suite. The guest cottage next door houses another 2 rooms; Zebra Room, with its own balcony and pool views and Rhino Room (similar to Zebra), both have a sitting area and share the fully-equipped living room and kitchen making them ideal for families and friends (up to 6). The Elephant room with an annex living room is on the top floor of the main house and available on request when the owners are away.

Activities

Onsea House and Machweo wellness retreat & fine dining are the perfect base for safari game drives in Arusha National Park, Tarangire National Park, the Monduli Mountains and Lake Manyara National Park among other great safari destinations in the "safari capital". After a day exploring, return to your luxury base, Onsea House or Machweo wellness retreat & fine dining, for a refreshing drink by the the floodlit swimming pool. For private bathing, the outdoor Hippo Pool Jacuzzi has stunning views and can be booked for individual use. For some extra indulgence, take a massage or aromatherapy treatment - just perfect at the end of a day's safari. And after all that relaxing, why not meet your fellow guests for a friendly game of pool in the bar.

Dining

Axel Janssens, Chef/Manager gained his degree in hotel management and specialised in patisserie and chocolaterie at the International Culinary School of Bruges Ter Groene Poorte. He is a talented chef and has had extensive experience as well as owning his own restaurant 't Keukentje in Sint Martens Latem. He prepares freshly made brasserie-style dishes using the freshest local ingredients, accompanied by fine wines. Breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner are served every day. There is a great selection of cocktails, wines, beer and Champagnes to choose from as well as some very fine cigars. Guests can enjoy a romantic lunch or BBQ in the swimming pool banda (thatched hut), next to the pool bar.

Rates

Rates at Onsea House and Machweo wellness retreat & fine dining are per room per night and include taxes, breakfast, early morning coffee & tea and afternoon tea. Half Board and Full Board include the recommended wines and water. The following discounts apply (apart from on exclusive rates): for consecutive nights discount of USD 15 per night; excl. drinks at lunch discount of USD 5; excl. drinks at dinner discount of USD 15; light dinner instead of full dinner USD 10; guest cottage more than 2 rooms occupied USD 25.Children under 3 free of charge and there is 1 baby cot available. Children over 3 do not receive a discount. Single rates start from USD 170 per night. Discounts on triple room rental sometimes apply.

Cancellation policy

Cancellation before 30 days of arrival will result in a loss the 30 % of deposit. In case of cancellation between 30 days and 3 days before arrival, ONSEA HOUSE will refund 25% of the 100% payment made, or 75% will be charged in case no payment has been made yet. No refund is made in case of cancellation within 3 days of arrival or in case of no-show without cancellation.

Distance from Airport: 30 minutes.
Additional Info: Transfers to/from Kilimanjaro Airport (USD 70 per car) and Arusha Airport (USD 40 per car) can be arranged. The delightful Belgian owners are happy to share their in-depth local knowledge. They can provide tips on safari, Kilimanjaro climbing, local events and cultural visits around Arusha. NGO projects which are supported can be visited in the immediate neighbourhood.
