About this Chic Retreat
Machweo Retreat opened in autumn 2011 and is sister and neighbouring property to award-winning Onsea House in Arusha. This new Chic Retreat is a fine dining and wellness experience and brings an additional 9 rooms and suites to the Onsea brand. Enjoy greater comfort and better food (the best in Arusha) than any other guesthouse or restaurant in northern Tanzania and choose either Machweo or Onsea House as your safari homebase. Machweo is perched on top of a hill and enjoys panoramic views across the Maasai steppe, Monduli Mountains and unrivalled spectacle of Mt. Meru.
Accommodation
Machweo Retreat has 3 Honeymoon Suites and 6 Cottage Suites many of which are connecting making them ideal for families. The main building houses the Honeymoon Suites with en-suite luxury bathrooms featuring bath and walk-in shower. The 6 Cottage Suites are beautifully furnished and have a separate sitting and living area, allowing for up to 3 guests. All of the 9 rooms at Machweo have private balcony with stunning sunset views (= machweo in Swahili) and Mount Meru.
Activities
The new Machweo Retreat offers the finest spa & wellness facilities including steam bath, sauna and swimming pool. Guests are able to use the Jacuzzi at Onsea on request. Machweo is a place to relax and unwind before or after a Tanzanian safari and/or a Kilimanjaro climb and is only 7 minutes drive from Arusha town centre and 30 minutes from Kilimanjaro International Airport. Private pampering treatment areas are in open air under an open African hut (banda).
Dining
The dining areas, both inside and outside of the new restaurant are away from the guest rooms. The menu has been put together by Chef Axel Janssens and features daily recommendations as well as an à la carte menu to suit everyone's palate. The brasserie dishes are accompanied by a list of fine wines specially chosen to complement the European/African fusion menu prepared by Axel and his team. The discrete and highly efficient staff strive to offer the best service and food than any other guesthouse or restaurant in Arusha, in a very private setting.
Rates
Rates at Machweo Retreat are per room per night and include taxes, breakfast, early morning coffee & tea and afternoon tea. Half Board and Full Board include the recommended wines and water. The following discounts apply (apart from on exclusive rates): for consecutive nights discount of USD 15 per night; excl. drinks at lunch discount of USD 5; excl. drinks at dinner discount of USD 15; light dinner instead of full dinner USD 10; guest cottage more than 2 rooms occupied USD 25.Children under 3 free of chargeand there is 1 baby cot available. Children over 3 do not receive a discount. Single rates start from USD 170 per night.

Cancellation policy
- Cancellation before 30 days of arrival will result in a loss the 30 % of deposit.
- In case of cancellation between 30 days and 3 days before arrival, Machweo will refund 25% of the 100% payment made, or 75% will be charged in case no payment has been made yet.
- No refund is made in case of cancellation within 3 days of arrival or in case of no-show without cancellation.

- Distance from Airport: 30 minutes.
- Additional Info: Transfers to/from Kilimanjaro Airport (USD 70 per car) and Arusha Airport (USD 40 per car) can be arranged. The delightful Belgian owners are happy to share their in-depth local knowledge. They can provide tips on safari, Kilimanjaro climbing, local events and cultural visits around Arusha. NGO projects which are supported can be visited in the immediate neighbourhood.
