About this Chic Retreat
The Pousada de Tavira - Convento da Graca is a wonderfully historic boutique hotel. Situated in the attractive town of Tavira in the Algarve, the Pousada has retained a remarkable amount of the original building - the 16th-century Convent of the Cloistered Augustinian Nuns. Features from this era, such as the Renaissance cloister, are complimented by modern styles in this chic retreat. Located on the site of what was thought to be the Jewish quarter, and with traces of Islamic influences, the history of this luxury hotel is on full display, with artifacts displayed in an in-house museum, and a stay in the Pousada de Tavira will certainly spark the imagination.
Accommodation
The Pousada de Tavira has 6 suites & 30 rooms, one of which has a mezzanine level. Two suites have balconies, the Almanasor suite has a private garden & terrace, and the D. Sebastião suite is a duplex. The superior double room has a wonderful view of the church and public garden in front of the Pousada de Tavira. All rooms have air-conditioning and heating, cable LCD TV, a mini-bar and the internet. The rooms are decorated in a classy palette of warm reds & beiges with soft lighting schemes and polished wood flooring. The furniture is unfussy and classy and the en-suite bathrooms come with comfortable bathrobes and soft towels.
Activities
There is a museum in the Pousada de Tavira with pieces from the Arabic occupation of Portugal in the 17th and 18th centuries, and parts of the original structure of the building dating from that era. The 2 outdoor swimming pools - one for adults and one for children - are shaded by large palms and surrounded by sleek black loungers with large white parasols and are a wonderful place to cool off from the heat of the Algarve sun. Beautiful beaches are only a short distance from the Pousada and sporty guests can play golf on one of the nearby courses or choose from a range of watersports.
Dining
Seafood plays a very important part on the Pousada de Tavira's regional menu. Dishes include tuna fish carpaccio with flower salt, olive oil, lemon and black pepper; ray with garlic, vinegar, potato and extra virgin olive oil and Tavira's soft cake with mandarin sorbet and wild fruits sauce. There is also a regional lunchtime tasting menu on Thursdays.
Rates
Rates for the Pousada de Tavira are for two people per night. For single occupancy, subtract EUR 12 from the double room rate. The prices presented correspond to the pousada's BAR (Best Available Rate), dynamic rates that vary according to demand/occupancy of the Pousada. These rates are subject to change.
