About this Chic Retreat

The Pousada de Estremoz - Rainha Santa Isabel overlooks Alentejo from its hill-top position at the centre of the quaint, whitewashed city of Estremoz. The castle, originally built for Queen Santa Isabel in the 13th century, was renovated in the sixties and is now a stunning boutique hotel. With antique pieces, fine furnishings and characteristics of many of the fashions that have influenced this interesting building throughout the centuries, this pousada is a wonderful chic retreat for those looking for a piece of Portuguese history.

Accommodation

There are 29 rooms, 3 superior rooms & 1 suite, all decorated in 18th century style. Gorgeous deep red and green textiles sit well against the beige walls, creating a classy, calm atmosphere, and many rooms have grand four-poster canopy beds. All rooms have air-conditioning, cable TV, mini-bar, bathgowns and lockers.

Activities

The outdoor pool in Pousada de Estremoz is edged on one side with crenellated castle walls from which Alentejo can be seen, and is a lovely spot for sunbathing. There are games to play, including snooker, and the region is great for country walks and bicycle tours. Shooting, hunting and fishing are all available just outside the pousada. There are a few fairs and markets in the area, including a lovely traditional market every Saturday morning.

Dining

Pousada de Estremoz's stylish restaurant has contemporary furnishings which blend well with the high vaulted ceilings, and serves a tasty regional menu including monkfish with clams in a coriander marinade, and roast lamb with rosmarinus, and a buffet is also served with traditional cuisine.

Rates for the Pousada de Estremoz are for two people per night. For single occupancy, subtract EUR 12 from the double room rate. The prices presented correspond to the pousada's BAR (Best Available Rate), dynamic rates that vary according to demand/occupancy of the Pousada. These rates are subject to change.
