About this Chic Retreat
Pousada de Arraiolos is a small luxury hotel in a thoughtfully restored 16th-century convent in Alentejo. A wonderful mix of traditional Portuguese architecture and modern design, guests can relax in comfort and enjoy breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside from the large outdoor pool. This is a wonderful place for the active, with plenty to do from walking, cycling, horse-riding and four-wheel driving to karting and paintballing, and equally perfect for a relaxing day soaking up the sun.
Accommodation
There are 30 rooms and 2 suites at Pousada de Arraiolos, all with a simple mix of contemporary and traditional styles and a bright, airy feel. All rooms have luxurious marble en-suite bathrooms with hair-dryers and bathrobes and in the bedrooms, cable TV, mini-bars and internet connections. Some of the rooms have their own private balconies.
Activities
Relax by the outdoor swimming pool with views over the valley, or take the day cycling, walking, horse-riding or exploring in a 4x4 car. There are tennis courts on site as well as family games to keep everyone entertained. The UNESCO designated town, Evora, is 20 km away, and worth the trip, and there are plenty of historical sites close by including the 14th-century castle nearby, the 16th-century Salvador Church and Sempre Noiva Manor and historical and cultural tours can be arranged. For those who like an active holiday, try canoeing, paintballing, hot-air ballooning and karting. Nearby, the small white-washed town of Arraiolos is world-renowned for its production of hand-woven carpets with their Persian-based designs and some of the original carpets can be seen in the town hall.
Dining
The conservatory-style dining room serves a gourmet menu of traditional Portuguese cuisine using fresh locally-sourced ingredients with specialities such as octopus cooked in olive oil with potatoes, lamp chops filled with parma ham and regional puddings.
Rates
Rates for the Pousada de Arraiolos are for two people per night. For single occupancy, subtract EUR 12 from the double room rate. The prices presented correspond to the pousada's BAR (Best Available Rate), dynamic rates that vary according to demand/occupancy of the Pousada. These rates are subject to change. Suite rates available on request.
