Pousada de Alcacer do Sal in Alentejo has a rich & vibrant history. Originally built by Arabs, it was converted into a convent in the 16th century. Now transformed into a stunning boutique hotel, the historical features of this thousand-year-old castle blend well with more contemporary styles. A quiet & relaxed atmosphere pervades this historical hotel, which overlooks the Sado River.

There are 2 suites and 32 rooms in the Alcacer do Sal. Furniture is classic contemporary and the decoration is unfussy with strong lines, and beige walls contrasted with dark furnishings. All rooms have air-conditioning, cable TV, mini-bar, bathrobes and a safe.

Activities

Pousada Alcacer do Sal has 2 outdoor swimming pools shaded on one side by the castle walls, with far reaching views of the surrounding area to the other side. There is a games room where guests can play cards and board games. The surrounding area is perfect for country walks, mountain biking and horse riding. Bicycle tours are also available. There is a golf course nearby and paintballing, canoeing and watersports are available for those who want to blow off a little steam, as well as four-wheel driving. Shooting is available, and for more traditional sports, archery, cross bow and traditional games can be found close to the Alcacer do Sal. To really absorb the view, take a hot air balloon flight. Fishing is available and guests can delve into deeper waters and take a diving trip, or a relaxing cruise.

Dining

The airy, light restaurant in Pousada Alcacer do Sal serves a speciality menu including Sado's fish soup, tomato rice with fried eel, lamb stew with a pennyroyal cream and local egg pudding. There are also some lovely restaurants in the area serving regional delights.
