Cerca do Sul is a small boutique B&B in Odemira on Alentejo's beautiful southern coast. This tranquil hideaway has a bright seaside-chic style and wonderful views out to the coast and Monchique. Lounge by the outdoor pool or wander down to the sandy beach of Costa Vicentina along a coastline of more than 100 km. The Natural Park of Southwest Alentejo has some of Portugal's most spectacular scenery and is home to hundreds of species of birds and flora. Perfect for a relaxing holiday, more active guests are also well-catered for - why not take a surfing course with their Surfing Holiday Packages, rent a bike, go horse riding or mountain climbing?

Accommodation

This tranquil luxury hotel has just 7 en-suite double rooms, with a chic seaside-style. White walls, terracotta brick floors and bold striped prints create a modern, informal feel, great for a fun-filled beach holiday. All rooms have en-suite bathrooms with showers, bath products, towels, 100% cotton bedding and flat screen TVs.

Activities

Sunbathe out by the swimming pool, or take the short walk down to the pristine sandy beaches of Costa Vicentina. A 45 minute drive takes you to S. Vicente Cape with its majestic cliffs and bird life including peregrine falcons, crow-billed reds, and if you are lucky, you may spot a kestrel. The Natural Park of Southwest Alentejo and Costa Vicentina has a vast wealth of flora and fauna, all open for exploring. The coast is also great for surfing, and Cerca do Sul have a variety of surfing packages available for novices and experts alike. The best local beaches are the child-friendly Carvalhal and the peaceful, and more difficult to reach, Amalia beach, though there are plenty more your hosts will happily recommend. To explore inland, this chic retreat has adult-size bikes for for guests to use free of charge. Cerca do Sul also have links with SudAventura, offering activities for the adventurous, including canoeing, mountain biking, horse riding, hiking, climbing, rappel and sport fishing, which is great for families with kids. Burros & Artes also offer a range of family-friendly arts & crafts activities such as pottery, painting and art using the natural surroundings for inspiration. The kids have their own playground, and everyone can join in with games in the chill out room which has a kitchenette for guests use and in the living room which has a TV with DVD player and a selection of movies. The nearby Zmar Spa offers guests a 10% discount, so take a rejuvenating trip to this little gem in Zambujeira do Mar. For a relaxing start to the day, guests can take a yoga class out on the grass in summer and in the cosy lounge in winter. Round off the day with an hour-long massage experience.

Dining

Enjoy a breakfast of freshly-baked bread, cheeses, ham, homemade jams, cake and cookies, freshly-made ice tea, cereals and yoghurts and daily alternatives such as eggs with tomato & oregano, scones, croissants or crepes; there's no need to rush with breakfast served until 12. Picnics can be ordered a day in advance and dinner is available from Friday to Sunday when ordered the day before, with a maximum of 14 guests served per evening. All meals are served out on the porch or in the dining room. There are some great restaurants in nearby Brejao, recommended by Cerca do Sul, and a little further in Aljezur, Arrifana, Porto Covo, Odemira, Pedralva and Rogil - sample the delights of the region.

Rates

Rates at Cerca do Sul are per room per night and include breakfast, daily cleaning and access to all facilities. Surfing rates are per person sharing in a double room. 40% deposit needed to confirm the reservation.

The Surfing Weekend from Friday to Sunday includes 2 nights stay, 2 days of surfing, Saturday's dinner and 2 beach picnics. The Surfing Week from Saturday to Sautrday includes 7 nights stay, 5 days of surfing, 3 dinners and 5 beach picnics. Extra beds are charged at EUR 30 per night for those 12 years and up, EUR 15 for under 12 years and EUR 5 for baby cots. Dogs can be accommodated in the shelter for EUR 5 per night. Bicycles can be rented at EUR 4 per morning / afternoon or EUR 7 for the full day. A minimum stay of 4 nights applies in July and August. A deposit of 30% is required to confirm the reservation.

Cancellation policy

For cancellations made up to 48 hours prior to arrival, the 30% deposit will be held for use on a future booking. For cancellations made less than 48 hours in advance or no-shows, the deposit will be forfeited.
