Felin Newydd House is a large country house between the Black Mountains, Hay-on-Wye and the glorious Brecon Beacons. Set in a 50-acre estate, this is the perfect bolthole for groups of friends, family holidays or a business trip, an apt location as the house was used in the early 20th century as a shooting lodge by Sir David Evans Bevan to impress his associates. Part of the building dates back to the 17th-century farmhouse from which the house began and the present building was remodelled around 150 years ago and has remained much the same externally. Rolling parkland and access to some of the most delightful natural areas in the UK make this the perfect rural retreat for groups, parties and weddings.

Accommodation - 9 Rooms

Simple block-painted walls in pastel pinks, warm yellows, baby blues and olive greens emphasize the spacious & airy feel of the rooms in Felin Newydd House. The 9 large double bedrooms, 4 of which can be twins or doubles, have elegant country-chic furnishings and beds have fresh white sheets and woollen throws. The rooms are all individually furnished with beautiful pieces from chaise longues and dark wood dressers to elegant fireplaces and some rooms accentuate the country house feel with large trunks and suitcases at the foot of the bed. Bedroom 1 has a particularly beautiful carved 4-poster bed. The large Georgian windows look out to the lush gardens and allow the sunlight to stream in, accentuating the spacious, comfortable atmosphere. There are 7 bathrooms, bright & breezy with free-standing bathtubs and many sport ornamental white fireplaces. Guests can relax in true luxury with a morning maid service and fresh flowers straight from the garden in room.

Activities

Close to the best of British country beauty, the Brecon Beacons and the Black Mountains, hikers and ramblers will be spoilt for choice. Hay-on-Wye, home of the famous literary festival is also close by. However, Felin Newydd House's 50-acres of parkland are beautiful in their own right and guests will be pushed to find a reason to leave the grounds. The communal areas are large and spacious with the same elegant style as the rooms. The morning room and drawing room have smooth wooden flooring with large rugs, sink-into sofas and open fireplaces, large enough for everyone to enjoy an evening of wine & conversation. The library is a quiet spot for a good read and there is a billiard room for the competitive among the group. For parents who want a bit of time alone, a child minder can also be arranged while the adults take some time to themselves.

Dining

The kitchen has a long wooden dining table and Aga, perfect for communal meals. Felin Newydd House are happy to organise anything, from food deliveries to a personal chef, a butler, or reservations in the best restaurants in the area. Wine and drinks can also be arranged and even a washing up service!

Rates for 2010

Rates at Felin Newydd House are for the whole house which sleeps up to 18 people and include VAT at 15%. There is a minimum stay of 2 nights at weekends and 3 nights at bank holiday weekends. If meals are required, breakfast is charged from GBP 11.75 per person with a minimum of 8 required and 2 and 3 course suppers can be ordered for a minimum of 10 people. A deposit of 50% will be required prior to arrival which is non-refundable and non-transferable. An invoice for the remaining deposit will be made dated 6 weeks prior to the event and will be sent following receipt of the deposit. This must be paid within 7 days of the invoice date. If payment is not received in this way or does not clear than the booking will be cancelled. Final invoices not paid within 7 days of the invoice date will incur interest at 8% over the Barclays Bank base rate per annum. Bookings made within 6 weeks of arrival will be invoiced and full payment must be received with 7 days of the invoice date.

Cancellation Policy
A cancellation fee of 50% of the fee will be charged for any cancellations made. If the cancellation is made within 1 month of the event, the full fee will be charged. Invoices not paid within 7 days of the invoice date will incur interest at 8% over the Barclays base rate per annum.
