Hotel Detail
Torre di Moravola is a contemporary boutique hotel which was a 12th-century watchtower situated along the ridge of a mountain overlooking the Carpini valley in Umbria, Italy. The potential of the tower was recognised by architect Christopher Chong and designer Seonaid Mackenzie whose vision was to restore the ruin to its former glory by enhancing the ancient origins of the tower using a modernistic design approach to the interiors to create a contemporary boutique hotel. Outbuildings, gardens, terraces and a 25m infinity pool are aligned on an axis with the tower to
maximise the dramatic 360 degree views over forgotten secluded valleys, unchanged since medieval times, giving the sensation that you are totally removed from the modern world. Four external terraces surround the tower: on the East side a large formal dining terrace with classic Umbrian views. To the South a more domestic feeling exists, with an open viewing pavilion forming an inner courtyard with herb gardens. The West terrace with stone reflecting pool and sunken sitting areas overlooks the olive grove. To the North is a large piazza, centred with an ancient olive tree.
