This is the most romantic season of the year, our Umbrian and Tuscan landascapes naturally gets warm with shading colours and farmers can finally stop -after the frantic Summer time and harvests and savour the results of their hard work.

I Casali di Monticchio offers to their guests the opportunity to experience Umbrian Autumn and its flavours, spending one day with our chefs and learning how to cook some typical season dishes while tasting “Novello” wine and olive oil(2009 harvest) of their own production.

Hotel Detail

Built in the 18th century I Casali di Monticchio, is a small luxury hotel situated in the lush green countryside between Umbria, Lazio and Tuscany. This wonderful place has the warm and friendly atmosphere of a home rather than that of a hotel and consists of 4 farm houses sympathetically renovated and in keeping with the original rural architecture of the area. The villa is in the prime position and is at the heart of the houses. There is a welcoming humm of jazz music as guests arrive in reception.

Accommodation - 9 Rooms

There are 5 suites in the main villa each with their own character and colours. Some with their own fire place, some with antique wooden beds, others with handmade wrought iron beds, but all softly decorated. Two rows of lavender leads guests to Casa al Colle which has 2 suites one of which occupies the entire top floor of the farmhouse. Both have their own dining room, living room and kitchen. Le Giuggiole is the old school which has an elegant suite on one level facing the vineyards of the estate and the botanical garden. La Torretta is a small and charming suite arranged on three levels and is situated a short walk away from the villa at the far end of the farmhouses. On the top floor is the Observatory, distinctive feature of the building. Its wide windows offer an all round view from Monte Cetona to the foot of Monte Rufeno and as far as the tuff plateau on which the wonderful city of Orvieto rises. Families and children are warmly welcome with all necessary equipment provided.

Activities

A spa is due to open for Summer 2009. There is a gorgeous swimming pool in the gardens and Barbara, who is in charge of reception can organise horse riding, wine tastings, visits to the nearby towns and cheese farms. I Casali di Monticchio has special arrangements with shops, golf clubs and restaurants. I Casali di Monticchio also has its own shop for those wanting to take something home with them.

Dining

Bernardo is the chef and son of the owner. He is young and talented and has origins in Sicily and Emilia Romagna bringing together flavours from both regions; olive oil, fish and vegetables from Sicily and cured meats and delicious cheeses from Emilia Romagna. His 'tagliata', thickbeef, is tender and cooked rare and Bernardo's brother Brian adds his own personal touches to the dishes. The food is mouth-watering and even the meat is home produced. Virtually all the fresh ingredients come from the estate - what more could you ask for..
