L'Auberge Damhotel is a small boutique hotel with both old and new. In the 16th century there was a small hotel in the same location as today. Merchants from over the whole country came to Edam to sell their goods from under the shed of the "Lancester". The Damhotel offered overnight stays especially for dairy merchants who travelled from far. Edam was a flourishing town due to the industrious cheese trade. Many cheese warehouses can still be found in Edam. Situated alongside the romantic canals are the magnificent and distinguished mansions. Amsteram is only 12 miles from Edam making it easily accessible for a short weekend or a longer, more indulgent stay.
