Hip interior designer Jacques Garcia entirely renovated this luxury boutique hotel for the Costes brothers and the result is divine. Beyond the wrought-iron front doors, the hall is a mixture of oriental and period French, with heavy curtains, chests and ornate gold lamps. Downstairs, is the stone-walled cellar/breakfast room (there's no restaurant), where blue, leopard-print 'throne' chairs and a huge wall tapestry are lit by chandeliers complete with flickering, flame-shaped bulbs.

Whether you're in a stripy single, a blue twin or a red deluxe, the atmosphere is maintained with dark panelling, fabric-covered walls, velvet tables and tall, free-standing iron lamps. The 28 rooms and 2 suites are air-conditioned and soundproof; satellite television, minibars, individual safes, laundry service and internet access are all available. All rooms at Hotel du Bourg Tibourg have small but luxurious black-marble bathrooms with beautiful, traditional, white sinks. Take time to step into the lovely interior garden designed by Camille Muller. Some rooms are on the small side due to the age of the building and the rooms on the sixth floor are the lightest.
